I'm sitting at the Tuttleman IMAX at the Franklin Institute awaiting the start of this film right now.

Definitely watch the first 2 because Rises is not in any way a stand alone film. It calls back to the first two, especially Begins.

Why doesn't the others count?

Different: director, actors & story.

The Dark Knight is one of the best films in recent years period, nevermind what scale you put it on for comic book movies. It stands out on it's own as one of my favorite films of all time.

It's like Heat with the Batman and Joker playing cat and mouse instead of Pacino and Deniro.

The thing is, this movie knew exactly what it was doing... it was just one of the most frenetic 3 hour movies I've ever seen. It really never slowed down one bit. Even in the non-action parts. It was like BAM BAM BAM. And it drew from at least 3 specific comic story arcs. Though I'm inclined to say 4. Sorry, this is going to be image heavy....

The most obvious is Frank Miller's seminal work, The Dark Knight Returns.

Then you have Bane's introduction stories The Vengeance of Bane and Knightfall.

Then the linking of Bane with Ra's Al Ghul and the League of Assassins/Shadows, Bane of the Demon, Contagion/Legacy and the Batman: Bane one shot.

I loved the 2nd movie, liked the 3rd, HATED the first. I thought the first was quite boring. I know usually that is how a trilogy kinda goes but I just did not like it at all.

Really? I think Batman Begins might be my favorite. I felt like from that one anything was possible while The Dark Knight whittled down the possibilities as far as bringing to life Batman's rogues gallery.

Yeah I think that's a great movie...but I don't have any interest in seeing it again, at this point we should never EVER have anyone retell the origin of Batman or Superman or Spiderman again. Too much time devoted to something even non fanboys know by heart.

Whereas I could watch Dark Knight an endless amount of times.

Man of Steel is definitely re-doing the origin, but what I've seen is looking really really good. Very different approach, hopefully.

But I agree, there's no need for Batman's origins to be told again. When they do a new wave of Batman movies(5-8 years down the road I think, but some of that depends on when they do a Justice League movie... which could build from Man of Steel if that's a hit) they need to just pick up with him in the swing of things. Though I want a marked visual departure from what Christopher Nolan has done. Like, the Batsuit I'd like to see in the black and grey of the comics and more akin to the kind of materials used for Captain America in The Avengers.

Saw DKR last night thought it was a great movie, pretty epic in scale. A little too big at some points but I can't wait to see it again in a couple weeks with my nephew.

Ultimately it falls short of Dark Knight for me, but not by a whole lot. I'd say 2, 3 and 1 are the order I'd put them in, in terms of favorites.

How could you not be grinning ear to ear when the lights go off in that motorcycle chase and you hear that cycle?

and yeah I'm dreading Man of Steel for that reason....but as far as I'm concerned with Michael Shannon as Zod they can do whatever the hell they want and theyve got my ticket.

Saw DKR the other night. I liked it but I still prefer the other 2 over this one.

Finally saw Dark Knight Rises last night and was blown away. It was a bit different than I expected, but I LOVED it. Now I really wish I had seen it on the big screen.

I'll be picking it up today or tomorrow. I've got a $20 gift card from Best Buy, so I'll only be spending $5.

I watched on demand but I'm going to pick up the dvd next week. Amazon.ca had a pre-order deal for all three Nolan flicks in a Blu-Ray box set for $30. If I didn't already have the first two movies I would have grabbed that.

I picked up my copy at Best Buy today, steelbook exclusive with an "exclusive" "The Dark Knight Reborn" doc on it... as far as I can tell it's mostly an amalgam of special features from the first two films and this one. I'll have to check out the Batmobile doc and the "Ending the Knight" doc soon. Tomorrow I'll be sitting down to actually watch the movie. I only saw it once at the theater, in IMAX.
