3 recent music aquisitions & reviews of each...

I got the new Alice Cooper, the new Anthrax & the new Misfits the other day.

The Misfits is awful! There are probably 3-4 songs that are 1/2 decent and could maybe be almost good songs if someone besides Jerry Only sang them. The rest of it is REALLY bad! Jerry has resorted to writing lyrics that are based on literal interpitations of horror movies with no creativity at all! I actually want to write some Misfits songs like this just as a joke. I think a song called "SAW 7 in 3D" would be great,"Laurel & Hardy meet Frankenstein" could be an instant classic and all the kids would go nuts for "Twilight".

I have to give the new Anthrax a few more listens. I'm on team Joey so I'm glad hes back (sorry to you Bush fans!) but its not 'catchy' so we'll see where that leaves me.

The new Alice Cooper which is like a part 2 of the original Welcome to my Nightmare is awesome! Its not like the Alice records for the last 10+ years, its really a lot like the original Welcome to my Nightmare. The songs range in style from classic Alice 'rock' to a heavier metal style and then some odd orchestral songs. If you're not an Alice fan you wont like it, but if you are check it out!

Last CD's I got were the Thorp mixed packs from Christmas and stash I bought for my birthday over a year ago :D

Recently added to my iPod:

Counterparts - Prophets. Probably one of the best new bands I've heard in ages, an album I liked as soon as I heard the first song. I listened to it to & from work today. I wish I was back in Ontario so I could see this band play regularly.

Parkway Drive - Deep Blue. From the first song (2nd track) I was let down. The clipping on this album is fucking terrible, the bass drum sounds like total shit, the amount of distortion due to "loudness wars" is ridiculous. I tried 3-4 songs and gave up, I put on Killing With A Smile & Horizons instead. Whoever mastered this album should be fucking brutalized with the wrong end of a plunger. I seriously hate loudness war crap, it sounds disgusting.

Steffen Shackinger - ElectriGuitaristry. This dude can play guitar. Almost every track is genius, there's a couple that are still boring/slow starts so I haven't given them properly air play but overall this guy rules. Check him out playing the songs live, I actually enjoy these better than the studio recorded album, the sounds is much nicer to listen to. http://www.youtube.com/artist/Steffen_Schackinger

A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.

The ANTHRAX is good, but thats about it. The first 5 songs are good, but then it starts to decline. I havent expected anything from them since that album in 1993. I think "persistance" is the last thing they did really well.

So long as they keep touring with Belladonna I am happy and will go to the show.

I acquired the Misfits album. The first track is not bad at all. I think Jerry's voice sounds cool. Then it REALLY drops off. Makes me sad.

I got the Nirvana 4 CD version of Nevermind and its pretty cool if you're a fan of the band. It has boombox practice space demos which are interesting.

The Misfits album that everyone is referring to, is that called The Devil's Rain?

If that is the case, the cover looks fucking awesome. Too bad it sounds like the rest of it is shitty.

^^^^^^ That would be cool if it has a lot of banter between songs. Hopefully they didn't edit it.

I got the new releases by Burning Streets, Anthrax and Blink 182. They're all pretty good for what they are.

I can't even bring myself to care one bit about giving anything new by the Misfits a listen. Never been into Anthrax really. Cooper's Love It To Death is one of my all time favorite "classic rock" (I hate to call it that though) albums & I like School's Out, I really could never get into anything he put out after those, but I definitely would like to hear what he's putting out these days

I got the new Meatmen "Happy Fuckin' Easter Asshole" 7" in the mail yesterday.....I think I like the cover photo more than the songs. Not bad by any means, but not something I see myself listening to a whole lot. Still one of the best live shows I've seen though

You are a very brave man for even listening. You deserve a Purple Heart.

I got the new Wilco last night. It sounds like Wilco.

I picked up the new Burning Streets last week. Like it a lot. Also finally picked up RM & the Disasters latest "Gotta Get Up Now." REALLY like that one. I'm on an Oi!/Streetpunk kick pately, so it was right up my alley. That 10" that Panzer posted about looks cool, if only I had a turntable.

Electric Six always cracks me up....listened to a bit of them for the first time in a while last week.

All I gotta say about the band Static X is I've probably heard them twice, which was twice too many, & enough for me to decide that it's one of the worst things I have ever heard in my entire life. & I hate that dudes hair

best known for this song

I saw them on a Rock Cruise around Boston harbor last year. Great time, and the coolest thing was that it was on a fucking boat! Anybody else ever see a band on a boat?

Yeah, Black 47 in New York does an annual Pirate Cruise. We did a booze cruise around Boston Harbor for the Banshee pub a couple years ago. Best part about that gig was all the smoking hot Irish girls who danced for us.
