Having been almost litterally raised in a Catholic church (My mom ran the Sunday school program and was an eucharistic minister, my dad was a lecter,
and I was an altar boy (no, they didn't "touch me there"). Interestingly, none of us attend church regularly, if at all, anymore.), I think I have
kind of a unique perspective about religion versus faith. I'm more or less agnostic, although I'm open to the idea of something outside our
understanding. Personally, I have absolutely no problem with ANYONE who has genuine faith that comforts them and inspires them to do good works.
Christian, Muslim, Judaic, Buddhist, whatever. For myself, I believe that good works in and of themselves are their own reward, and trying to please
a diety in order to receive eternal salvation doesn't enter into it. If you do good things that people remember after you're gone, you get to live
forever.
I think anyone can agree that people who turn faith into a way of elevating themselves above others aren't really getting the point. More than that,
they're dangerous, and acting contrary to the way it's supposed to work. Unfortunately, they're also the ones who draw the most attention to
themselves, and blur the line vetween faith and religion.
I'd also include some atheists in this category. For all of those folks who are simply waiting for more evidence, if any, there are a lot of people
in that area who use their non-belief to elevate themselves. I find that the only thing more annoying about someone proselyting about their religion
is someone who proselytizes about not having one.

Where is this list from? Cu Chullain was a mythic hero, neither a god nor a king or saint (although he presumably is dead, and has been for some
time). He's more Achilles than Hercules. Samhain is the traditional Celtic harvest festival, which is actually still celebrated by many folks.
I'm not arguing anything with you, I'm just curious who came up with that list, because they've either made a couple of mistaken assumptions, or
they're padding it to make it look bigger. I hope it's the former.

I was raised by parents that liked to go to a christian church eash week (mostly my father was the one heavy into the church) and when he passed away
when I was 13, we pretty much stopped going. My wife is religious but does not attend, though she used to teach 2-3 year olds sunday school and I
would actually help, even though I don't believe.
I have a tough time with religion in a way. I am a "To each their own" type of person for the most part so people are free to follow / do what they
want in my book as long as they don't try to force it on me.
I just don't believe. Do I simply think we just die and thats it? Yes, and it makes me sad. I have battled with this thought for a while and I
think this is the first time I have "vocalized" it, and especially with a kid coming this seems to make sence but... I WISH I could believe. Yeah...
I just feel like I can't. I don't think their is a higher power, too many people with too many variations on what is in the afterlife, who is to say
who is right? I believe that we just die. Could I be wrong? Yes, as can anyone since there is no way of knowing, but without knowing I can not
blindly follow somthing thinking there is somthing in the afterlife without any proof, and as I kinda pointed out, I am semi-jealous of people that
CAN do that and kinda hope I am wrong.
I think I confused myself on that one, and understand if no one reads it. Just felt this was a great time / place to get it out. Any feedback is
welcome, that's for sure!

It's not like I can get any answers on any of this really, and that is life. Each side of the issue are just full of opinions and pure speculation.

This kid at work signs all his emails "god bless" which I think is incredibly forward and shows a lack of workplace decorum. He's the first person to
throw people under the bus after inviting them to see him play bass at his church.

I'm agnostic and unconcerned. The only religious person I interact with in any meaningful way is talking to DaveMoral on here, and I have no reason
or desire to give him shit about his beliefs. He's always been a stand-up guy as far as I'm concerned, and I've never seen him use the Qu'ran to
oppress people that aren't like him (unlike most of the religious people I've encountered in my life).
My feeling is simple... if religion makes you a better person, then I hope you believe. If religion makes you worse, I hope you're a non-believer.
And I feel the same way about lack of faith. If being a non-believer makes you a bigger shitbag than you are as a believer, then I hope you have
faith.
I don't give two fucks where you get your sense of decency or moral compass from as long as you (i) have one and (ii) don't oppress or exploit others
for not having the same source for one as you have. Belief in God/god/gods makes some people better and some people worse. Pick whatever path works
for you, be a decent human being, and respect that other people may find power from a different path.

My thing is, I'm firm in my faith and my values... adamant even... but I'm not a dick. Some if the things I see wrong in the world you guys would
disagree with, some of it's serious so.e of it less serious. I'm not here, on earth, to push my beliefs on anyone. The only way I'm copping an
attitide about it is if I'm being called evil and shit or a "timebomb" because of my religion or some of the shit people make up or misconstrue to
suit their own polemic. Only way I'm getting militant is if I'm literally being aggressively prevented from ptacticing and expressing my faith. Fists
will fly over shit like that if nothing else works.
Other than that, I do what I do because I believe it's the right thing to do, it's what I owe to myself and my God. Paradise isn't somethingI put much
thought into. That wouldn't keep me praying 5 times a day and fasting one month of every year for the rest of my life. I just know the discipline
brings me peace, soothes the soul and hopefully with thought and effort it will help me be a better person and strive for justice in this unjust
social cinstruct of mankind.
