HAHA, got a great story of when I used one because I was a cheap bastard... A place I worked temp at had the Keurig K Cups and I would crack them open and strain hot water from the fountain thru the grounds placed in a normal coffee filter so I wouldn't have to pay $0.25 per k cup coffee (I would need 2 to fill a decent cup so it was $0.50 multiple times a day) and it was a temp job so I could give a fuck less. Showed one of my friends how cheap I was and they said "I have a french press you can use, i'll bring it in." So, I was using that until the job was up! Thing worked pretty damn great, after a while I had to push the plunger down a bit slow to avoide getting grounds but other than that it worked great. Tasted like regular brewed coffee so other than my need to be a cheap ass, I just stick to brewing a pot but works great if you just have hot water and need some joe.

IMO too much work/mess. Unless you really have to be a coffee geek to prove a point...I'd pass. Buy a cheaper Keurig and call it a day.

i always thought the french press was for serious coffee nerds. i'm sure there is some advantage, but i have no idea what.

isn't the Keurig that thing they have in hotels where you put a plastic cup about the size of a creamer in a machine, it runs hot water through, the spits out coffee? does't that get kinda expensive? if you've already got a coffee maker, why not just use that? not trying to be a dick, i just don't get the appeal.

Yes, that's a Keurig. Keurigs don't make sense for everybody...

If you are in a household where a pot of coffee gets brewed and drank before it's bad...it's a stupid investment. Unless, you want it just to have a different vareity of coffees and teas because you're one of those wierdos that wants coffee to taste like glazed donuts and pecan nutter butter mocha frappalappa whoziewhatzit.

If you're like me...where a pot of coffee goes to waste, but you drink several cups of coffee throughout the day or you normally would buy a cup of coffee somewhere in the morning because you don't want a whole pot...then it makes total sense and can save you money.

I don't drink flavored coffee but I can buy bulk Keurig K-Cups off eBay of a Caribou dark roast (which would be a more expensive K-cup variety) and the cost breakdown is $.50 a cup versus the $2+ that would cost me at a coffee shop.

I brought it up because a French Press is basically a small batch coffee maker.

You also can use the little adapter cup if you like and just brew your regular store bought grounds in the Keurig if you want the convenience of a cup or two w/o wasting a pot or brewing half pots...and don;t want to pay for K-Cups.

got it. being able to hook up a variety of flavors without buying a whole bag is cool.

does starbucks make something for those machines as well? i feel like i've seen some single serving jawn in their stores before.

we've been using the same coffee maker for 11 years and buy the biggest can of regular coffee we can. we rarely make more than enough for two cups a day, so we're probably at something like $.02 a cup. HA!

Starbucks may, I know that Caribou and Dunkin does.

See I used to do the buy grounds and make 2-3 cups thing...I'm not a flavor coffee guy but I'm kind of a snob about the coffee being fresh, so a giant can of grounds going stale would not fly. I take mine black (sometimes with a miniscule splash of cream) and want the taste of bold dark fresh coffee.

They are pretty fruity, came in handy for this cheap K-Cup stealing bastard though!

We got the Keurig B-60. It's great. We will probably be getting the cup that is refillable with whatever coffee grounds we buy. Its like $11 for the attachment so it will be just like using a regular maker but higher temp of brew and 1 cup at a time in less than 2 minutes. Good stuff.

Side note: Kohls had them for $189. I took a picture of the same model at Sams Club that is priced at $129.00. Then we had a 25% off coupon in email, a $5.00 rebate Kohls card and some other coupon the wife got in the mail for Kohls and we eventually only paid like $85.00 and then tax. Saved over $100 dollars. It was work but the Keurig kicks ass.

You can get one of the smaller models for $50-80 with a little shopping around.

One thing with Keurig...they're very good about replacing their product if it's under warranty...I'm on my third one in 3 years...whenever they replace the warranty refreshes for one year (new serial number)...not sure if I've just had bad luck or what (pumps going out etc).

My brother in law got a Keurig a few months back and instantly fell in love with it.

Am I the only one that thinks that coffee tastes like balls thru the Keurig?

I don't see the appeal of those Keurig machines. I grind up a couple days worth of really good beans at a time and make 2 cups of coffee before I leave in the morning. I don't understand why you'd need to make a full pot, you can make however many cups you want.

As far as the french press, never tried one personally though I have had coffee from them. Might pick one up someday, but not in a rush to or anything.

What kind of coffee did you have through the Keurig to form this opinion?
