planning a wedding

man planning a wedding is a lot of work! I've done the bare minimum and its only like 1/2 a wedding cause theres no ceremony and its still a lot of work and money.

Most of the stuff we've gotten/done so far has been REAL cheap compared to what a lot of people spend, but I'm pretty fucking cheap so its all expensive to me!

We got blank invitations for $30 which I thought sounded good, but then I had to buy $15 worth of double sided tape to put them together and once they're all ready its probably gonna be getting close to $150 in postage!

Tell me about it! First we were going to do like a destination wedding... Then decided to have a party after we came back... But then figured it'd be the same amount to just get married in front of out friends.... My ways of saving money... Not have a wedding party, instead put everyone to work. By doing this we get our cake for free, bartender (we'll buy booze and also put that down for shower registry) having a pig roast with turducken,.. Close to cost... DJ on the cheep... We're having it in a friends back yard but got to rent tent tables and chairs... That stuff comes to almost $6000 ( $2000 of that is just a floor because that's my main concern)
I bought my dress at a party dress store for $186... My best friend is getting ordained.
It's a lot of money anyway you do it... But if you're going to have a party any way why not just get hitched there.... That part doesn't cost much.
Yeah... The vagina in me can go on and on about this... But it's your first wedding... Make it the best party you'll ever have.

When is the big day?

I'm hoping the whole thing (party, invites, clothes, food, DJ, party favors, centerpieces, rings etc) is no more than $4000, but we shall see!

It's possible but will take a lot of do it yourselves stuff.... Plus if it's not really a reception why bother with favors and crap? Where you thinking about having it?

does a keg of imported coca-cola with real sugar (instead of corn syrup) really cost that much? :D

hope it all works out. doesn't paulie dj some soul a bit? he could be your dj, and how much more memorable could you ask for than the rev paul bearer to dj your wedding?

unless the bride-to-be cares, you could cut back on some of these things. digital invites rather than maii (except for the old folks who don't keep up with technology)l. party at a friend's house, a friendly (and cheap to rent) club, or reserving space in a public park.

i would think you can scale back on party/invite/clothes since this is a celebration of your love and commitment instead of the wedding party. less formal but still celebrating with your loved ones, so no need for elaborate expenses.

given that the wedding is on halloween and the party in mid-november, you can do an "early thanksgiving" to celebrate with everyone who may not be around for the holidays. the theme seems especially appropriate, and you avoid the expectation of extravagance. you get everyone you care about together, have a feast together where everyone overeats and feels like a big family. play up the "friends are the family you choose" vibe, which is true (even for the family you invite, which are the ones you want to share the occasion with).

and get mark lind to do an early thanksgiving fiasco show. :)

Planning one now for next June.
Well she is planning most of it, I am just coughing up the cash.
Right now I see it being around $18K with going away for a honeymoon and all.
Small and fun.
All being done in a WW1 memorial hall thingy(BD May know the place) called Merion Tribute House.
Got a pretty good caterer, and are picking the playlist for the DJ...lots of old black people music, Motohead and even some punk in the mix....shit I should just hire Paul Bearer.......

Good luck bud.
Make it real.
Surely you deserve the good times.

we're doing it at a banquite hall/resturaunt in Pawtucket/South Attleboro (near my house) and the hall & food is pretty cheap. its gonna be chicken, pasta, potato, vegetible, salad & bread. There is a cash bar and free coffee.

We're doing the centerpieces & favors because we're treating it like a reception. Its like a real wedding just minus the ceremony thats all. Plus thats the only stuff that I think is cool at all. Like I designed the invitations and I think they came out real good.

My girlfriends mom is paying for the DJ so thats one less expense. I'm pretty sure that things will be cheap enough that we can make most of the money back in gifts. She bought a dress that was like $89 and I'm wearing shorts and a button up shirt that I already have! I found surgical stainless steel rings on ebay for $8 each and as long as it matches the white gold in the ring she already has were both getting those.

I dont care about the music at all because I dont dance and my girlfriend really likes all the crappy dance type music they play at weddings and she has friends that dance and there will be some kids there too. I would love Paulie to DJ the dinner part, but I wouldnt ask that favor.

ok so heres a mini update:

invitations are all printed and put together. We have most of the address' but the envelopes are not printed yet so they will most likely go out next weekend (except for the 6 that I did by hand and sent out already). We got picture frames at the dollar store for center pieces and have 1 out of 4 of the things to go in the frames and are waiting on the other 3. DJ is booked (my girlfriends mom paid for that). Hall is booked, food is selected (chicken, pasta, potato, veggie (or a 2nd potato), salad, bread & coffee wth a cash bar).

Uh.... I think thats all so far.

I'm a little less than two months away from my wedding, and we're going totally DIY with it. Handmade favors, printing our own invites, hitting up yard sales and thrift stores for decorations (not to mention Etsy for some of our own outfits), and almost 100% local for the food (We're not doing a dinner. We've got sweets and baked goods from local shops in Worcester, with the exception of one cake our friend is providing as our present.). The cool thing is the show we booked for the after party that night. Spitshiner, Matt Charette's as-yet unnamed new band, and Riki Rocksteady at Beatnik's in Worcester. No cover, all invited to that. we're both more-or-less just waiting for the ceremony/reception to end so we get get that going ;)

I got some Save The Date 'magnetic business cards' from vista, 25 for $17 shipped. They came out very cute, sent out about 15 of then today to my people's in other states... and also friends in bands or that put on shows.

Also Sir Diablo and I are getting hitched the same day... Which is pretty random and rad.
