heading to Las Vegas

I'm on vacation this week and I'm going to Las Vegas for my first time. I'm going with my gf, her mom and aunt. Any suggestions on 'must see' things?

I wanna see some touristy stuff like the Pawn Stars store and stuff like that. Also wanna play KISS Mini Golf and see the HardRock Casino and maybe Circus Circus cause its in Fear & Loathing.

there's probably a lot of cool stuff to eat out there.
I'd also go to the pawn stars place if it was close by.

I'm sure there is tons of cool stuff to do outside of the typical gambling, hookers and booze theme, for which 2 I have zero interest in.

I've been to Vegas roughly a dozen times so I'll weigh in...

OK...first of all...Pawn Stars is like the Walmart of tourist destinations as far as Vegas is concerned...with all the stuff to do out there I can't imagine going there and I actually like the show a lot. I personally have never been there but have heard from people who have and never heard anything good. You'll be lucky to see anyone from the show actually there from what I hear and they act like Dbag rock stars. But you never know...

I have a friend who went to the KISS golf and said it was a blast, haven't been there yet, but that's on our next trip.

Circus Circus...if you look up "abominable shit hole" in the dictionary you will see a picture of CC. It is one of the most "kid friendly" casinos on the strip (along with Excalibur) and it shows...worn down...dirty...french fries on the carpet...pig sty.

Now eats...it entirely depends on what you're looking for, but the best buffet on the strip right now is Wicked Spoon at Cosmopolitan (my wife and I have been to every one worth noting). It's not vats of food like a typical buffet, but small plated dishes and very single morsel of food is beyond amazing. The buffet at Rio (which is across the expressway from the strip so you'll need a cab) gets honorable mention as you almost need a golf cart to get from one end to the other, and the food is well above average. There's a ton of non buffet restaurants...as a general rule if it looks nice it probably good food...if it looks expensive, it's probably expensive...if it looks dirty or there's a bunch of kids...move to the next place. Only one I'd really recommend hitting if you have a chance is Todd English's Olives at Bellagio...that doesn't mean there's not a ton of other kick ass places, but we go there every time because the food is stellar and the prices are more than fair compared to similar places.

The Grand Canal shops near the Venetian is a sure win with the ladies. Tons of shopping a gondola ride with the fiance, Madame Toussads Wax Museum and a ton of other shit like random performers and snack places out the ass. The fashion show Mall at the north end of the strip is unspectacular...it's Vegas' version of a regular mall.

You don't really need a car...I rented one once and never would again...there's a bus that rides up and down the street for like a $2 all day pass...we usually never even get that...walk, you'll need to walk off all the grub anyway lol...if you have a set time to be somewhere, take a cab...it's about $10-$15 anywhere on the strip max.

At the airport, I would get a cab to your hotel...those shuttle bus things are a couple bucks cheaper and a HUGE pain in the ass...you have to wait for them to arrive, then wait for them to fill up...then no matter where you're staying your hotel is always the lasts top. Then for the return tip you need to schedule a pick up...and wait. Cabs are always outside every hotel lobby, it's effortless.

I'll chime in more in a few minutes. Where are you staying?

As far as Fremont St, old Las Vegas...I love it...my wife hates it. I think it has personality...she thinks its inhabited by escaped mental patients and derelicts (shes part right). All the hotels there except Four Queens and Golden Nugget are dirty scary flop houses.

You do need to go there at least one night though, mandatory. It comes alive like no place else in Vegas...plenty of sights.

If you take in a show...any of the Cirque shows are great and Copperfield was amazing...Phantom of the Opera was really good too...all expensive though.

My wife and I don't gamble...we maybe blow $20-$30 a day in slots out of boredom while giving our feet a rest, we still end up blowing $200 a day EASILY on incidentals/foods etc etc...w/o alcohol. So be prepared for that.

I stayed at the Plaza once. That wasn't so bad. Granted, this was 11 years ago...

Shit is expensive here! Cheapest way to get a drink is buying $1 bottled water from the homeless people.

So far we saw a lot of the strip including Cooe World & m&m World which I wanted to go to.
Today is a lazy pool day at the hotel.

Tomorrow is Fremont street and Friday will be the day to check out Pawn Stars, HardRock, Kiss mini Golf and other crap. We also might go to Evil Dead the Musical in 4D and see Bodies.

Saturday were probably going to Love (the Beatles show) and Sunday some
Odds & ends before leave on Monday.
