good for you!
i haven't been able to get out as much this winter as last. occasional mtn rides, couple times in dec & jan, but it's cold and sloppy. even
commuting has been reduced due to extreme cold and rain.
i am doing a 40 mile, 5 boro tour in NYC this spring, though. really looking forward to that. riding w/ 32,000 other people isn't very enticing, but
closed roads across the whole city is!

BD, what kind of bike are you riding for the 40 miler? Is it a road bike or XC? That sounds like a lot of fun.

I got a bike from my lady for Christmas.
It's a Raleigh Flyer which is, I think, a pretty typical hybrid road/sports bike but my girl is a bike nut and basically took it all to bits and then
put it back together with new brakes, wheels, chain etc
I've only taken it out a couple of times so far as it's been fucking freezing in London for about two months.
I have to say it's extremely nerve racking cycling on the road. I hadn't been on a bike for about 14 years until now and back then it was a BMX.
I'm hoping to start cycling into work when it warms up as it will save me about £120 a month on public transport.

I would ruin this bike porn thread as I have a slightly rusted Mongoose that I bought from a town police auction for $6.00

I watched that documentary about those dudes in Cali riding single speed bikes with no brakes or some shit. I have to go back and check it again. So
many unanswered questions.

BD, it is indeed.
I compensate for the hipster-mobile by wearing tons of professional cycling clothing that I get off my girlfriend haha
(she works for a big cycling clothing company).

$325.00
IT was up to 385 on ebay with $40 shipping. I wasn't willing to wait out the 2 days and face ebay fees so $325 was about right I guess.

that's a good chunk toward the new ride.
i've gota tundra ride planned for tomorrow morning with the boys. meeting at 8am, temperature should be 22, got some fresh snow down. hoping to
throw some wide-ass, hand-me-down thompson bars on before the ride.

i try to ride year round. last winter was mild, so it was easy. this year, i'm trying to get out if it's above freezing. that said, many rides this
winter have been in the teens and 20s. tend to do MTN rides in this weather due to the trees reducing wind. road riding in the extreme cold/wind is
just brutal.
this past friday was like 55º, so a buddy and i hit up a quick 20 mile road ride.
this morning was quite cold, so we met at his shop for some maintenance, then went out with a couple others for a MTN ride. it was only about 30º,
and while i felt perfectly warm, my legs were like jelly.
---
after 700 miles on the Pacer last season, we put new tubes, tires and brakes on the road bike. also added a hand-me-down Thompson wide-bar to the
Specialized before this morning's ride.

What specialized you got? Do you like it a lot? The shop I am going to carry them. I am leaning towards the Trek because they bought Gary Fisher and
that was what my old bike was. However I got my eye on a Cannondale if the Trek offer doesn't pan out.

The specialized is a total frankenbike. This time last year i was able to pickup a brand new Hardrock frame and fork from a local shop for $100
knowing that a buddy of mine had unused components from a Rockhopper that he'd donate to the project. The original bike was built and ridable for
$100 and a case of beer.
I've upgraded a few things over the past year, but always with hand-me-downs and extras from friends that work at bike shops. Thompson stem and wide
handlebar, Cane Creek headset, Odyssey BMX pedals, Juicy 5 hydraulic disc brakes, body geometry seat and grips.
The only way I was gonna get a new mountain bike was through donations and discounts. I'm happy to take what I can get and ride the shit out of it.
Honestly, I can't tell the difference between 'good' components and average components and I'm not interested in shaving ounces here and there. My
primary concern is that everything be able to take a beating w/o falling apart and that it not cost me a ton of money. So far so good!
