Philly May 11-13

So the wife and I are gonna be in Philadelphia for a wedding the second weekend in May. Any suggestions for places to check out while we're down there? Cool music store, thrift shops, eateries?

Definitely go get a cheesesteak, love going to Philly. I did all the historic stuff when I was younger and it was cool, take a walk down South street to.

I think Mutter is a definite, my missus also found that on a list of oddball places to go. Any cool record stores in the city? I saw a place online called Noise Pollution?

Cheesesteaks are a possibility, but do you HAVE TO get them with the mushrooms and peppers and onions?

Is Noise Pollution still there?

I used to shop there regularly, but have not been down there in years.

I never eat mushrooms on anything....yuck

you can do a cheesesteak however you want. cheese wiz w/ onions is the signature, but you can do whatever. roast pork or roast beef with broccoli rabe at tony luke's is my go-to these days. onions and peppers sounds more like a sausage sandwich.

if you do walk down south, jim's near 4th street is a good option. then body graphics (gavin's tattoo shop) is at 6th. there's a bar called tattooed mom that's a good spot for a drink.

repo records is on south street, philly record exchange is just off south (at, i think 5th street).

Noise Pollution is right off South Street on 4th.

They have a nice selection of punk/oi/hardcore stuff.

If you're into that sort of thing, Passional is a sex shop on 5th right by South Street that is awesome, one of my favorites that I have been to.

There is the Edgar Allan Poe House at 7th and Spring Garden, which is part of the National Park Service.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art has a ton of cool shit including a whole section devoted to weaponry and armor. Right by it is the Waterworks and Boathouse Row.

Weekend was good. We didn't get to see as much of the city as we wanted, but the Reading Terminal Market was awesome, and I got a nice little ink souvenir at Philadelphia Eddie's in Chinatown. We definitely want to come back down this summer and see the Spy exhibit at the Franklin Institute, and spend some time on South Street, which we didn't get to do this time around. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll definitely keep the list handy for next time!
