Colorado could make history by funding cannabis research

http://www.csindy.com/coloradosprings/colorado-could-make-hi...

soon, racists will have to deal with the fact that marijuana can save lives.

it's only a matter of time before studies are conducted on a regular basis.

in 20 years, people will look back at marijuana prohibition like we look at the racism of the 50s & 60s.

no real good reason for it.

legal marijuana is coming in full force.

basically, it will take about 20 years for enough narrow minded, racist simpletons to die off and then cooler heads will prevail.

just watch and you'll see the areas of the country that hold out or never give in will be the ones where non-whites feel most uncomfortable.

opponents will be held accountable...

just thought I would share my recent experiences with ganja

I have been surrounded by "weed culture" for years and years do to my participation in surf and reggae cultures. I never had much time for weed.....it just was not my thing. I never had an issue with people using it.

I have never considered it a "Drug" although I do understand it can be abused by individuals who choose to abuse it....just like salt or soda or porn or whatever...you know what I mean.

This past year, I was diagnosed with a disease that is not terminal, yet still chronic. Fucking weed is the only thing that almost ELIMINATES my symptoms (which included vertigo and barfing for hours). I was shocked when I tried it on the advice of a friend to combat my illness.....it worked within minutes. The prescription meds I was given work half ass and take an hour or two to kick in.

There is no medical marijuana in my state...so, despite my juvenile hatred towards anything remotely "hippy", I find myself becoming a pretty informed advocate for both medicinal and recreational use of marijuana....not too mention its industrial applications etc....

you still wont see me wearing any dopey weed shirts or using the weed lingo that everyone likes to use in the current marijuana culture....still makes me cringe although I totally accept it as part of the deal as a possible medical weed using candidate.

LordActionWood, I'm sorry to hear of your health condition. I hope you are able to recover and enjoy the fullest life possible.

a few years ago my younger brother suffered thru a short, yet brutal battle with cancer that he eventually lost. The medications prescribed / pushed on him / experimented on him with made his life worse. Essentially a half life para-pelagic bed ridden who was half the weight he once was being fed thru an IV lying around at home waiting to die mercifully. He lived in Texas, and I am not sure of the laws there, but I am pretty sure he didn't get the option we are speaking of. Anything that would have brought him some comfort and improved his remaining days would have been embraced.

The irony is that there is a bar, beer store, or liquor store in walking distance in any direction from my apartment where I can go and legally purchase some tasty booze that is obviously terrible for me and is known to ruin lives and whatnot (but I love it anyway :) ) yet if I were caught with a bag of ganja I's have the legal system unraveling my life. Seems like a hypocrisy to me....

I smoke the herb occasionally, but not to the extent I once did as a younger man. My brain is fried by life at this point.

Jawn, so sorry, man, to year about your younger brother. Memory eternal.

I thank you for your well wishes. I will be just fine. I'm a pretty good at occupying myself so shit doesn't cause me too much anxiety. My condition is manageable....I just have to eliminate all of the fun shit to eat and drink and try not to get worked up when I get an attack. I do not for a second, compare my condition with others who may have it worse....I just wanted to give an example that reminds us there is a lot of exploration to do regarding the medicinal properties of weed. I used to ignore this this until I myself was effected....shame on me because it could help a lot of people.

thanks for sharing guys.

Lord it's refreshing to hear your story. mainly because you gave it a try based on a recommendation even though you weren't fond of weed culture which speaks volumes to your character. there are so many more people in this country that would've said no and held firm on it based on nothing other than a false stigma that was born from pure racism.

i've struggled with anxiety and depression for a while, but it was always periodic and usually revolved around some kind of stress. first i had to leave LA which was heartbreaking, then, against my better judgment, i took a high paying sales job. i had no idea i was getting myself into a high pressure job with sadistic management while being surrounded by cut-throat, no morals, jerk off fathers.

panic attacks started coming more frequently and more severe. i thought that if i cut down my drinking things would get better, they got worse. despite being completely against it, i caved in to seeing a doctor and going on medication. i was just trying to save my job and keep my girlfriend. things got even worse. the doctor kept adding more meds. before i knew it i was on high dosages of 7 different LEGAL drugs and there was the other 2 that had immediate negative reactions. nothing was even remotely better in the slightest.

i've smoked weed for a long time, but i'm somewhat of a joke in stoner circles because i don't need or want to smoke massive amounts or stay high all day/night.

i lost the job, lost the girl, lost just about everything. no family to fall back on, no friends to help other than throw small amounts of money at me. a friend in LA found out and couldn't believe i got on the meds. through his encouragement i kicked them. it was the hardest thing i've EVER done. EVER. we're talking 6 months of pure hell and then 6 more months of pure suck. i was insanely suicidal.

in the midst of the worst of the worst, my friend asked if i was using weed to help. i had been smoking a little at night. he asked if it helped, it did. "dude, why aren't you using it more then? quit fucking letting society's bullshit view affect you and get better." and that's what i did. the weed helped calm me, decreased the suicidal thoughts and actually got me to get OFF my ass and get outdoors and exercise.

with the help of music, i would get up at the crack of dawn, take a hit, go for a 4 mile walk, another hit at noon, 3 mile walk, hit at 4 and then a 6 mile walk/run. after a while, i was smoking weed and then running 6 miles in an hour. i cut out processed foods and lost 50 pounds. i weigh less than i did when i was 15. weed carried me through long enough for all that shit to get out of my system.

things ain't perfect, but they are WAY better than a year ago. i am slowly feeling like myself again. motor skills, quick thinking and rhythm are returning. i did a shit ton of other things also to get better, but the weed lifted the fog enough for me to see past wanting to give up.

i gave the LEGAL meds a chance and despite constant pressure from all angles to get back on, i didn't and i'm confident i made the right decision.

in the future, the youth will struggle to understand how a stigma was placed on a plant that can help ease suffering.

they will ask why people stood in the way of science determining medicinal value.

why didn't you just test it and see the results?

i, and others like me, will be there to keep the record straight...

amazing story, murk. glad to hear things are turning around for you and that you've fought your way to a better place. lordactionwood has been a friend for over 20 years - his recent diagnosis scared the crap out of me. i'm glad he's found something to help, but it's still worrying that he'll have to deal with this for the rest of his life.

If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2014/01/15/new-hampshire-house-votes-to-legalize-pot

Quote:
After a passionate debate, the New Hampshire House of Representatives endorsed a bill Wednesday that would legalize marijuana in the state.

The vote was a nail-biter, with closely divided legislators initially voting against legalization 170-168 before choosing to vote again, the second time approving legalizing pot with 170 votes.

The bill, HB 492, would decriminalize possession of one ounce of marijuana by adults age 21 or older and allow residents to grow up to six plants. State-licensed stores would be authorized to sell marijuana.

Quote:
"Just as we would no longer say women have to go back in the kitchen or gays have to go back in the closet, we recognize that times have changed," Vaillancourt said. "We are no longer slaves to our misguided past."

people say they love their kids, but do they love them enough to move to a place to try something society frowns on with the hopes of making their child's life better?

http://denver.cbslocal.com/2014/01/23/medical-marijuana-strain-has-hundreds-of-parents-flocking-to-colorado/
Quote:
There’s a medical marijuana plant that has parents moving to Colorado to help their children.

The strain of marijuana is called “Charlotte’s Web,” and it’s named after a young girl in Colorado previously reported on by CBS4. The strain, converted into oil, has drastically changed Charlotte Figi’s life for the better. Now advocates claim hundreds of families are moving to Colorado in a last ditch effort to help their suffering children.

“We felt in our hearts it’s what we needed to do,” Marie Jay said.

The Jay family hails from Minnesota, but they have now been Coloradans for about two weeks. It was a move solely to help their daughter Jenna.

“Jenna has extractible epilepsy due to brain malformation,” Marie Jay said.

Jenna’s smile is bright, but her past is filled with years of suffering — 20 different medications and a surgery. Right now she takes 15 pills a day, but still has up to 500 seizures a month. Marie and Jason Jay are done guessing with doctors.

“At one point they just don’t know anymore and they’re taking stabs at it,” Jason Jay said. “Well, that’s my daughter.”

http://denver.cbslocal.com/2013/11/18/epilepsy-patients-flocking-to-colorado-after-medical-pot-gives-them-hope/

http://www.suntimes.com/news/otherviews/24615512-452/pot-holds-no-medical-mysteries.html

Quote:
Despite the federal government’s nearly century-long prohibition of the plant, cannabis is nonetheless one of the most investigated therapeutically active substances in history. To date, there are over 20,000 published studies or reviews in the scientific literature referencing the cannabis plant and its cannabinoids, nearly half of which were published within the last five years, according to a keyword search on PubMed Central, the government repository for peer-reviewed scientific research. Over 1,450 peer-reviewed papers were published in 2013 alone. (By contrast, a keyword search of “hydrocodone,” a commonly prescribed painkiller, yields just over 600 total references in the entire body of available scientific literature.)
