if yer looking for some bad ass hard rock blasted up your ass straight out of the 70s, check these guys out, their CD is amazing and a breath of fresh
air...
Not heard them on record but I saw these guys live recently and they were hands down one of the worst bands I've ever seen and I'm pretty open minded
when it comes to music.
The band they were playing with however, Blues Pills, are incredible and wiped the floor with every other band on the bill. Seriously, I can't
recommend them highly enough.
You may well like them if you're into Scorpion Child. Kinda sounds like Joan Jett singing for Kyuss.
Saw them last fall? with Kadavar and Gypsyhawk. Struck me as hipster stoner rock. Trying way to hard and there's no way on earth Kadavar should have
opened for them in any universe. That band is the real deal.
SC isn't terrible on album but I don't think l played the album more than a couple times and got bored. There's a lot better acts pretending it's
still the 70's like Kadavar, Orchid and a few others its too early to think of.
But they do have shirts with topless skeletonhead ladies so it could be worse.
you had me at satanic Jethro Tull, lol, spot on comparison, i grew up on Aqualung
the song definitely grew on me as it played, i'm just curious enough to check out more and the video was great
hell yeah Juice, Winery Dogs jam, Rickie Kotzen was on That Metal Show a few times last year, never heard a singer who sounds like Chris Cornell
before
After checking most of these bands I've never heard, I'm really liking Blues Pills, Kadaver and Blood Ceremony. Much appreciated!! Any other good 70s
sounding bands?
Thanks! So far I really like Magic Circle and Christian Mistress. I've always been a big Wino fan, so I've heard almost everything by him and his many
bands.
Great thread!
You might like the Wounded Kings from England. Really sinister, slow doom.
Saw them at Roadburn festival (great Dutch fest that features all this sort of thing) having never heard of them and they blew me away. They recently
got a female vocalist but I haven't seen them with her yet so I haven't decided if I prefer her. They're great either singer.
Here's some early stuff...
Have any of you guys heard Goat?
Kinda pretentious but very enjoyable.
It's probably nonsense but they have a great backstory featuring Haitian witchdoctors converting ancient Swedish village to voodoo or something.
It's kinda psychedelic rock mixed with afrobeat - sounds weird I know but it's fucking catchy.
Wounded Kings is solid. Have their split with Cough. John from Johnny Vomit goes to Roadburn every year...I wish.
Another great one is Windhand. Like Electric Wizard w/ female vocals. These guys are absolutely punishing live. One of the heaviest things I've ever
witnessed
and of course Pallbearer...though live the past couple of times I'm not sure how I feel about the direction their going...but Sorrow and Extinction is
without question one of the best doom albums in the past 10 years. Top 5 Easily.
Had to pop in just to add that I love that Scorpion Child record. I know a lot of the other people are mentioning doom/stoner rock but for asskicking
rock n roll the SC record is one of my recent favorites.
I'm pretty late to the party but just discovered ASG a couple of weeks back.
Good timing too as they're coming over to Europe in the next month or so.
Very melodic and not so much doom, more like stoner rock mixed with alternative rock.
They sound, quite specifically, like a mixture of Torche, The Sword, QOTSA and Jane's Addiction with maybe a bit of Red Fang too. Check em out if that
sounds like it might be your thing.
These songs are off their latest record Blood Drive which is awesome and all of which you can hear on youtube here: http://youtu.be/EHe4awX8UnQ
