Whiskey

We're going to talk about whiskey here.

A thing many of us are fond of.

What are some of your favorites, and perhaps some recommendations?

More or less for myself, to expand my palate of such things, and to enjoy some new styles, but I am sure we could all benefit from it.

type away people.....

Crown Royal
Makers Mark
Jamesons

A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.

I've been preferring Bourbons lately myself.

Knob makes some tasty ones.

Tullamore Dew is my personal favorite, a nice mellow Irish whiskey.

For a Canadian sampling:

Crown Royal
Canadian Club Reserve
Wiser's De Luxe
Gibson's Finest 12 Year Old

Jameson 18
Red Breast 12 or 15. The 15 is hard to find, but worth it.
Tullamore Dew

good choices guys.

I am curious, for you guys up in Canada, what it the price like for a 5th of an 18 year whiskey like Jameson these days?

I have been enjoying this Knob Creek Smoked Maple Bourbon for a while now. Purists may criticize the flavoring, but damn it is smooth for a 90 proof bourbon.
We have a bottle of the 100 proof standard here as well which is mighty good.

Last year I picked up a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue Label for my best man. In Delaware, there was a slight discount, however given the price, I am still on the fence about how cool I think it is.

I did take BD's advice last winter and picked up a bottle of Laphroaig® Scotch Whiskey as a gift fro the same dude. This stuff was over the top with aged wood flavors. Really interesting. I need to revisit it because we hadn't opened the bottle until after 3:00 AM after a night of Guinness and Jameson at an Irish Pub for a friend's 40th.

Eyeing up Dad's Hat Rye for my next purchase. Curious about that one.

I believe it's in the $50 range these days.

Blanton's is by far and away my favorite. If you are into bourbons I highly recommend it.

I forgot Forty Creek, I love that shit.

I need to check out some Tasmanian whiskey, apparently they have some world leading stuff down there.

What amazes me is the sheer number of whiskeys they make in India. I'm guessing it's a holdover from their days as a British colony.

You can't really find the Jameson 18 up here anymore, as Jameson has stopped shipping it to Canada apparently. When it was here you were looking at about $120 a bottle. Fucking ripoff, considering I've bought in the USA for $89.

BKT.

Wild Turkey 101 always, just tried Basil Hayden and it was damn good.Bottle has a metal ring around it. Not sure how expensive it was since a friend brought a bottle back from Kentucky.

did a whiskey club deal like 3-4 years ago at a bar.....had to drink 46 different whiskeys & got a $100 bar tab & my name on their wall. I dig a lot of the $35-$45 bottles, Bulleit & Bulleit Rye, Basil Hayden, Woodford Reserve, Mitcher's, Knob Creek, Maker's. I dig on a lot of state local stuff, Colorado we had Stanahan's and one other, I've been seeing some Texas one's now that I'm here, but haven't had the funds for them. Morgan, let's get together soon & drink some Blanton's, I haven't tried it, & I have a better couch for you to crash on now that I moved into a house!

I'm down for it. Going to be kind of busy as far as weekends go through New Years but let me know when you have some free time and we'll figure it out.
