Race and the hurricane response

There has been a lot of speculation as to why the federal government has taken so long to adequately respond to Hurricane Katrina. Do you think that race had anything to do with it, as some have suggested?

I don't believe the response was because of race. I think it was a matter of having everything in place and the "know how" or practice. I don't think our government was prepared. Race is a non-issue in my opinion.

I don't think Bush is conciously thinking "whatever, they're only negroes" (or is actually capable of concious thought, but that's another topic) but on some level I have to think it contributed to his lack of conviction. Can anyone honestly believe that he would have dragged his feet like this if middle class white people were in that situation.

agreed

just take a look at the papers
your leaders
they\'re killers
they\'re liars
what they do in your
name to make the bodies pile higher
the murders, the terror
they\'ve done it forever
as we sit band and smile
at the script they sell us
but now the victims, they\'re rising
their numbers\'s multiplying
they want their revenge for the years
that they\'ve been dying

as Moforn said, race wasn't on the forefront of his mind (oil was), but I cannot imagine the response (and even the preperations / build up after the obvious warnings that something pretty nasty as on its way) would have been so ridicilous if Katrina was hitting DC or Virginia.

i am tired of hearing race brought up into every thing.
everybody always wants to blame the "white man".

if anything a more reasonable argument could be....maybe bush just doesnt care about poor people, and there are plenty of poor white people.

and there are plenty of poor white people going through this tragedy now, they are not just helping white people down there and neglecting the blacks are they?

\"thank you very little\"

Exactly. It is poor people in general that he doesn't care about and we have known this for some time now. He does not give a shit for the lower class.
