Mom & Boyfriend Scald Son in Tub, then smoke crack
October 24, 2005 7:08 AM by Nicole Apostola

There's so much that's wrong about this I don't even know where to begin. To wit:
--Stephanie Williams's live-in beau forced her seven-year-old son into a tub of water so hot the skin on his feet and legs peeled off.
--She and the boyfriend, Byron McFarlin, looked in the Encyclopedia of Bad Parenting and the entry under "scalding with skin loss" indicated they should not take the child to the hosptial nor give him any food to eat.
--Somebody had to pay the bills, and I suspect McFarlin wasn't going to be that person. So Williams still went to her job as a teacher's aide at Perry Child Development Center. No, I couldn't make that up if I wanted to.
--The boy was punished for wetting his bed. Just because there's no skin on your feet doesn't mean you can't walk to the bathroom and use the potty like a big boy.
--Williams struck her son with a belt because her boyfriend told her to, presumably because hitting the skin encourages it to grow back at a faster rate.
--She also smoked crack cocaine with her boyfriend during the time in question.

As if all of this weren't depressing enough, Williams was sentenced for a time period of up to four years on two counts of second-degree child abuse and up to 14 years on eight counts of check forgery. Yes, she will spend more time in prison for writing bad checks than for what she did to her son. If this is second-degree child abuse, I'd hate to see what first-degree child abuse is.

Thanks, or something like that, go to Misti for the tip.

Man Accused of Killing Wife, Daughter
October 21, 2005 1:37 PM by Nicole Apostola

A judge ruled today that most of the statements made by 35-year-old David Zacher to police and child protective services will be allowed at his trial. Zacher is charged with stabbing his wife and 4-year-old daugher to death. In addition, he's charged with stabbing his two-year-old daughter, who survived the assault.

Defense attorney John Parrinello says that the prosecution has "no witnesses." Well, John, that's because whoever stabbed these three females did so in such a way that the two that could speak English in complete sentences died. I'm sure the one who survived can't say much beyond "Dada" and "Elmo."

Parrinello continues, "They're going to bring in experts. The DNA is not going to show anything other than what you would expect that is that it came from the people that lived in the house.? Which sounds a whole lot like, "My client sang like a bird and there's nothing I can do about it" to me.

Massachusetts Parents Oppose Acceptance Of Gays In School
October 21, 2005 12:25 PM by Jason Avant

Beware the Gay Agenda! That's the message that David Parker is teaching to his son, a Lexington, Mass. kindergartner. As if fingerpainting and learning the words to Wiggles songs weren't enough for a kid to deal with. Now the kids have to worry about secret armies of Gays trying to turn them Gay with their Devious Gay Ways!

The Parkers, it seems, were a bit miffed when their son brought home a picture book that included families with same-sex parents. The school has refused their request to pull their son out of class whenever homosexuality was discussed. And, I gotta tell you, Mr. Parker does make a good point about tolerance. "Real respect, real tolerance", he was quoted as saying, "is not pushing your beliefs on other people." Although...this is kindergarten we're talking about. And a teacher telling kids that some people have two mommies is a bit different than a teacher reading a Dan Savage column to the class. And I'm pretty sure that "real tolerance" doesn't involve teaching your kids to fear and loathe people who are different from them.

Still, there are those who believe that The Gay Agenda is a real and tangible threat to Decent Society. I'm not too sure that there is a Gay Agenda, but I HAVE had plenty of nice young men in white shirts and clip-on ties knock on my door and tell me I'm going to Hell if I don't become a Christian.

"Invasion of the Child Snatcher" Starring Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin
October 21, 2005 7:29 AM by LizBeth Finn-Arnold

Alec Baldwin has decided to take his latest custody fight with ex-wife, Kim Basinger, public by calling her a "child snatcher." He says that Kim has refused to honor their custody agreement regarding their daughter, Ireland. He also whined that the blonde bee-atch wouldn't even let Ireland attend a concert with her daddy because it "wasn't his night" to have her.

Kim is staying quiet during this latest battle, but Alec is gearing up for a confrontation in court. Perhaps these two should take divorce/custody lessons from Demi Moore and Bruce Willis who are enjoying such a lovefest, that Bruce even attended Demi and Ashton's wedding. Ahh, now isn't it better for the kiddies if we all just try to get along?

Two-Year-Old Sticks Arm in Meat Grinder
October 21, 2005 6:13 AM by Nicole Apostola

A two-year-old was brought to the hospital with his arm stuck in a meat grinder.

Quicker than you can say "Hamburger Helper," the family of the boy began clamming up to investigators. You see, this isn't the first time their children have come to harms' way, although it is the first time a meat grinder was involved. Previously, they had been on more of a "neglect by way of car accident" track.

In 2001, a 1-year-old boy was killed by a car after he ran out of the house and into the street. In 2002, a 4-year-old was struck by a car while he was outside the house, although he survived the incident. In each case, the family evaded questions from the police and actually covered up the 2002 car accident.

Maybe police will ignore the registered sex offender living with them if they can get a dog to bite another of the kids.

I...um...well...it's...oh, just read on. I'm speechless.
October 20, 2005 7:37 PM by Candace J

I'm not lambasting April Gaede for naming her twin girls Lynx and Lamb. I don't even have an issue with her name choice for her youngest daughter, Dresden. No, really, I have absolutely nothing horrible to say about Lamb, since clearly that's the worst of the the three. My reason for writing this is much, much worse. Sort of makes the whole "hey, that kid's parents suck because they named him Sue!" rant seem so inconsequential.

No, my problem with April Gaede is that she has turned her children into White Supremacists. Wait! It gets better! Lamb and Lynx are in a band! It's called Prussian Blue! You know, because they're of Prussian decent and they have the blue eyes and all. In an interview, one of the girls said the saddest thing in our country today is the fact that "It seems like smart white girls who have good eugenics are more interested in making money in a career or partying than getting married and having a family." But they like Green Day! And Alison Krauss! I'm betting that those folks would not heartily embrace those endorsements. Just a guess.

I saw the twins featured on Primetime on ABC. I didn't even make it through the first 16 minutes. Even as I sit here writing this, I'm a bit nauseated and aghast. I knew this stuff existed. I mean, I grew up in Indiana and I live in Southern Ohio. But never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that someone would encourage their twin daughters to write songs about the "myth of the Holocaust".

I'm sick. I'm just...gah. I need to go clean my poor, sullied computer now. I wish I could do the same for my brain.

Mother Chokes Daughter, Holds Gun to Her Head
October 20, 2005 1:58 PM by Nicole Apostola

Kathy Lavonne Ford, 33, is wanted on four counts of felony child abuse. Authorities say that on September 29, she held a gun to her 14-year-old daughter's head while they were parked in their car. She also choked the girl until she almost lost consciousness.

I know, I know. Nothing impressive there. It's not like she was driving and choking the daughter at the same time. But here's what is impressive: Ford's three other children, aged twelve, six, and five, were also in the car. My son isn't anywhere close to that age, but I've babysat children in the single digits. Isn't it refreshing that, in a world with so many misbehaving kids, Ford has a five- and six-year-old who didn't fidget at all while their mother tried to kill their sister!

(Yes, I know, they were probably scared out of their pants. The only reason I posted this was to be able to write the words "If you've seen Kathy Ford, please call the Crimeline at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.")

Naked Hemorrhoid-Suffering Dad Is A Pain In Family's Ass
October 20, 2005 11:30 AM by LizBeth Finn-Arnold

DEAR ABBY: My son-in-law insists on walking around naked after his shower. He claims that he's hot and must let his hemorrhoids air-dry. Abby, this man has four children, three of whom are girls ages 9, 7 and 4. My daughter has done everything from plead to scream to get him to stop this habit, yet he still emerges from the bathroom with the announcement, "Turn your heads, girls, I'm naked!"

What more can my daughter do to get him to understand how potentially dangerous this is?

-- DISGUSTED IN JAMESON, MO.

DEAR DISGUSTED: I discussed your letter with Dr. Stephen Kuchenbecker, a respected colorectal surgeon in Los Angeles. He informs me that while hemorrhoid sufferers are advised not to rub that tender area of the body, they are encouraged to gently "pat" dry or even use a hand-held hair dryer to be sure the hemorrhoids are free of moisture.

It is not appropriate for your son-in-law to parade around in front of the girls. My suggested aversion therapy: The next time he makes his grand entrance, your daughter and the girls should point at his lower midsection and start laughing. If that proves ineffective, she should buy a long extension cord for her hair dryer, and warn her spouse that if he doesn't dry his hemorrhoids, then she will. I'm sure he'll get the message.

Parents Name Baby After "Google"
October 20, 2005 8:31 AM by Jason Avant

I was a bit nervous going into this post. What happens, I wondered, when you Google "Google"? I imagined some horrible Philadelphia Experiment rupture in the space-time continuum, or the Gates of Hell opening up, or me getting sucked into the computer like Jeff Bridges in Tron, which would be bad because I'm not really good at the video games and would probably end up dying a horrible death, my lightcycle splattered across the virtual landscape. Luckily, none of that happened. Whew!

Why was I Googling "Google", you ask? Because I needed a pic to go along with this entry. You might be surprised to learn that there really aren't a whole lot of good images of "Google". It took me a while to find one that worked. I came across some interesting shots along the way, including one that's definitely NSFW (it involved a woman's breasts replacing two of the vowels in the word "Google". I'm sure you can guess which ones). Really a lot of wasted time and wasted pop culture references, not to mention anxiety over potentially destroying the universe, just to let you all know that a couple of dipshits in Sweden named their kid after the most popular search engine in the world.

(I know - lots of buildup, disappointing ending. Kind of like most of Spielberg's recent movies. Thanks to Blogging Baby for the story.)

Mother Drowns Three Children in San Francisco
October 20, 2005 7:54 AM by Nicole Apostola

The voices in the head of a 23-year-old woman told her to strip her three small children naked and throw them off a San Francisco fishing pier into the bay. Or at least that's what the authorities say.

I myself believe the voices were really one voice: that of bystander Christina Todd, who told reporters, "It reminds me of the Andrea Yates case. We just moved here from Houston a month ago, and we were there for that. And now this. It's awful, just awful."

You know those people who will go on vacation and it'll be all sunny at the beach and then when they show up the whole week will turn into one torrential downpour after another and ruin your vacation? I think Chrisina Todd is like that. Except with mothers, children, and water.

Christina, don't you dare move your sorry butt to Massachusetts. I'll be watching for you.

African Mom Buries Newborn Alive
October 20, 2005 5:58 AM by LizBeth Finn-Arnold

This week on CSI: AFRICA, a mother is arrested for the crime of burying her newborn baby alive. Things take a rather gruesome turn, when CSI investigator, Inspector Mamphaswa Seabi, discovers that this murdering mom HAS DONE IT BEFORE.

Can this serial murdering mom be stopped before she gets herself pregnant again, and commits another horrific crime?

Indian Parents, Son Force Fiancee To Kill Herself
October 19, 2005 10:52 AM by Jason Avant

Ever see the movie Monsoon Wedding? I watched it with my wife a while back, and really liked it. I won't go into details; I'll just say that it's pretty much the exact opposite of this story.

A couple of questions. First, a dowry? Really? I thought those went out of style years ago. Like right around the time Napoleon checked into his digs on St. Helena. Second - the guy stood to get Rs five lakhs - in cash! - and a house valued at Rs 13 lakhs! Dude - come on! That's Rs 18 LAKHS WE'RE TALKING ABOUT! Why so greedy? (No, I have no idea what that means either, but it sounds like a lot.)

Y'know, call me culturally insensitive, but isn't this a bit, you know, Dark Ages? You have one set of parents attempting to sell off their daughter, and the other set killing said daughter over the deal. And the guy and his dad were cops. Guess they skipped class the day the police academy went over the stuff about dowries being illegal in India since 1961.

Man Reports Missing Car, Not Missing Baby
October 18, 2005 3:22 PM by Nicole Apostola

Hey, dude, I was driving along Sunday night when I saw these people. I stopped the car and started chasing them into the woods. And then I chased them some more. I got really lost and got my butt out of the woods. And then I got home.

And then I was all like, "Dude, where's my car?" So I called the cops, because they seemed like the kind of people who would know. And they were like, "This car?" And I'm like, "Yeah, that's my car."

And then they were like, "We found a baby in the car." And I'm like, "Oh, yeah, I totally told him to stay in the car while I chased those dudes. What a good baby."

And then they get all "You've got the right to remain silent" on me.

Aw, man. There were PEOPLE in those woods. That I had to CHASE. The kid totally dug that.

French Court: Debt-Ridden Parents Tried To Kill Family With Insulin
October 18, 2005 1:38 PM by Jason Avant

Sacre bleu! After racking up an incredible amount of debt (250,000 Euros - that's a lot of Royales With Cheese, my friends), Emmanuel Cartier and his wife Patricia did what any sensible parents would do - they tried to poison all of their kids and themselves with insulin injections. Sadly, the couple's daughter Alicia died as a result.

This is not to say that they were bad parents; after all, the Cartiers used their 15 credit cards to buy each kid their own TV, two of the kids had their own computers, and three had "hi-fi" (after reading that particular bit of Euroslang, I had to check to make sure this story was written in 2005 and not 1975). Well, ok, maybe they were bad parents. Why didn't they buy ALL the kids their own "hi-fi"? It's wrong to play favorites. Clearly, these two have issues. Poor Emmanuel - you have to feel something for a guy named after the popular heroine of a series of soft-porn flicks made famous by "Skinemax". Looks like they're bound for the Bastille. Au revoir, putains.

Repeat After Me: Babies are not Footballs
October 18, 2005 7:26 AM by Nicole Apostola

Cardell Gallagher, a former minor-league football player for the Racine Raiders, had been taking a shower one morning and left his daughter in her bassinet with a 17-month-old also in the room. He heard his daughter crying, then heard a thump followed by more crying. He came into the room and saw that the bassinet had tackled his infant daughter.

Gallagher poured some Gatorade on his daughter's head and told her to walk it off. He said "the infant behaved and ate normally the rest of the day." That is, until his wife came home around 3 PM and she took the baby to the hospital. Indeed, there was bleeding on her brain and she began to have seizures. Gallagher was subsequently charged with child abuse.

How unfair! It's not his fault the furniture decided to play a little game of touch football and things got out of hand! If you want to blame anyone, why don't you blame the ref -- she was 17 months old and should've called the bassinet for holding!
