A little taste of what's to come

These are the two newest songs (or the lyrics, anyway) that I've written with my still unnamed band. Let me know what you think. I feel like I've improved in my writing skill since Crime Pays, but I know not too many of you even knew about that stuff.

Same Old Rut

Singin' the same sad, sad songs
Sayin' all the same so longs
Diggin' holes and spinnin' my wheels
Makin' and breakin' the same old deals
I've got the sense I'm losin' time
There's too many things I've left behind
Stood and watched too many doors shut
Wastin' years in this same damn rut

I've got nothin' to prove
And not much more to lose
All my sins have been confessed
Time to pull out of this mess

Two steps forward, three steps back
I'm movin' this train to a brand new track
One of these days I'm movin' on
Don't look for me 'cause I'll be gone
I've got the sense I'm losin' time
Nothin' left to leave behind
On through this door before it's shut
I'm diggin' my own way out of this rut

----------------------------------------------------------------

I love it when a song comes together this easily. I wrote this in about 8 minutes after one of the guitarists in my band played a basic version of the verse and chorus for us at practice one night. It's currently my favorite song we play, followed closely by the song that was our newest until this one came together. This next one is based on my troubles with insomnia and general feeling of hate and anger towards the world, which is of course, thoroughly boosted by all those nights of two or three hours of sleep before jumping out of bed again to get back to another day of the same old shit. I guess this one's not quite as optimistic as the first one, huh? Here, it's called A Good Night's Sleep

Woke up this morning with my brain
Pounding right out of my skull
Woke up with a hate for the whole world
Cranked right up to full
Hard to get to sleep
Knowin' I'll wake up in the same fuckin' place
Tough to look in the mirror
When you wanna put a fist through every goddamn face

How do you get a good night's rest
When you've never known peace?
How do you come to grips with being
Another germ in the human disease?
How do you get a good night's rest
When you've never known peace?
How do you get through life
When you can't find a moment's release?

Went to bed last night
With blood stained sheets and a hate stained heart
Went to sleep knowin'
Wakin' up is just another day to start
Hard to get outta bed
When you got two hours escape from the world
Can't look forward to anything
'Cause you'll never escape this world

As i read these I'm hearing a tune in my head, I don't know if its the right one, but it all rolls very nice. I'm also drunk...ish. and stoned. I find the best lyrics I've written personally are the ones that roll out of me so fast I can't write them fast enough and I'm frantically yeliing at my bass player to play that riff again...no not the chorus bit the da-daa-daa-da-da-da bit....yeah, that part. Sorry, I digress...Very good lyrics, they definitely strike a chord with me and rank as poetry in my opinion...and your story about the 8 minute song brought back a couple memories as you can well see by my rambling. I thank you for this post. Cheers, and I'll be back somewhere else drunker later.

Well, its this place where nobody works, and the pigs don\'t give you any shit. Everyone smokes weed and gets drunk all day. Its a place where cunts like me and you can truly take it easy and relax. Know what I mean?

I still have a couple demos and shirts, if you want some I'll send you some. I still say we were pretty decent, it's just that as with everything I'm involved in, we didn't fit in anywhere. If we had played more Punk shows instead of trying for the so-called Hard Core scene, we probably woulda been better off.

Scary lyrics Big guy, but amazing as well, as pain is the truest form of art in our time. Which leads back to the scary I guess, I am semi drunk as well and feeling this though, how would you explain the music to this? I have a tune in my head but I am sure it's not rhe same one you ahve written for it.

Well, lemme see.... the music is definitely aggressive and heavy, but not in a metal way (which should be obvious to anyone who knows me at all), there's a lot of melody running through the guitars too and they play off of each other instead of just playing the same thing all the time. I think some of the newer songs we've written sound along the same lines as Bonecrusher in that it's definitely melodic, but still sounds pretty mean (if that makes sense). I don't think we're close enough sound-wise to be a rip off of them (or really anybody else), so I won't try to describe our sound that way. I've gotten one of the guitar players into a lot of Japanese Oi, like LRF and Rough Trade and I think some of that style is reflected in there, although I definitely wouldn't say we sound very Oi ether even though at least three of us like Oi a lot. I guess I'm not very good at describing our sound. Once we get some stuff recorded I'll set something up so people can hear it.

Thanks for all the feedback so far guys.

The demos I mentioned are from the band defstarsteve and I were in back when we both lived in Austin. I was just bringin' them up because Steve said he didn't even have one anymore. These lyrics are from my new band here in Colorado, different style, different sound. Thanks for the interest though, I'll let everybody know when we finally have something to show for this band.

Oh, thanks to everyone for the comments, I appreciate it.
