LIVE AT THE CHILDREN'S HAVEN, 1990
"How did you guys pull that off?", were the words uttered by Merle Allin, (brother of the infamous GG Allin) when confronted by the bassplayer of
Gobstopper, Jimbo Bloodworth. He was referring to possibly the most surreal punk video to come out of FL or elsewhere which he had in his collection.
If it shocks Merle Allin, you know it's outrageous.
Gobstopper were a thrash/punk/oi outfit hailing from Tampa/Sarasota, FL in the early 90's. Ominously referred to as "tardcore", the line-up was a
constantly rotating group of between one and three insane frontmen, led by a solid backing band line-up. Their shows were, to put it mildy, exciting,
intense, and absolutely hilarious. The band recorded only one demo, "Melon Fucker" (hence the wallpaper to this site), and only played a handfull of
shows. But they made a hell of an impression in the short time that they were around. With lyrics centering around everything from vintage video games
to having sex with legless women, it was like a cross between the Mentors, Terrorizer and Stikky.
Opening for such bands as Insted and GBH, Gobstopper's big break came when the drummer's probation officer had suggested that, for his looming
community service hours, his band could play an upcoming Christmas Party at a home for the mentally disabled. Could it be any more perfect? A band
playing a cross between Oi and grindcore with such songs as "Legless Bitch", "Bitch In Blue" and "Phone Fuck", (slightly censored for the sensitive
ears of the audience, of course) for a crowd of severely brain-damaged folks. Needless to say, the band showed up and played, (the singer, Matt,
improvising much of the gig as he had very few practices in at that point) and the rest is underground history. There was never a mean-spirited moment
in the entire gig and everyone had a great time. But what you will see is some really... unique... dancing and some hilarious tunes performed. But the
fun doesn't stop there as interviews conducted after the show with the various audience members reveals some very unusual perspectives of the show and
other various topics.
The show was video taped and has been traded around in the underground tape scene for years, albeit most copies out there are severly diminished 8th,
9th, etc. generation copies. Now, finally.. it's available on dvd transferred straight from the master copy with newly edited title and credits. Good
that it's on dvd, because you'll watch this thing so many times that a vhs tape would be worn very quickly. Without exception, people that have seen
this video are amazed and comment again and again and again for years.
Over an hour long with interactive menus. Please check back to this site, as Jimbo may be adding some other dvd's from his collection of the many,
many shows he taped in the early 90's, including more hilarious Gobstopper shows.
If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

I saw Murphys Law play a free show outside at a family amusment park one time. They were told multiple times to stop swearing and stop with the beer
because parents were complaining about them. They were set up on a HUGE stage with a flume (water ride) to their right and a roller coaster to their
left. Jimmy G dedicated songs to the guys that ran specific rides for letting him cut the line. It was awesome!
To give you an idea of how insane it was that they played there, the other bands I saw play there were Weird Al, White Lion, The Divinyls & Kenny
Loggins.

THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD SHOW. I am serious too. Kenny Loggins rules and that chick from the divinyls was really hot back then.
Each aspect of the soul has it's own part to play, but the ideal is harmonious agreement with reason and control.
