Couple of new thorp reviews
Just posted these on my site a few days once. Once again like always Thorp rules and releases amazing stuff.
Fall River-Lights Out

Initially I was expecting this to be fairly typical of the current metalcore sound, but after cranking the CD numerous times I think this band might
easily fit the void left when Coalesce or possibly even Deadguy called it a day. The band is heavy, and I mean heavy. The riffs are absolutely
thunderous and recall Coalesce quite a bit; however the harsher vocal approach is quite different from what Coalesce had to offer. The band has a
spazzy sort of quasi-technical feel to a lot of the riffs, yet most of the time the band is playing riffs that wouldn?t be out of place in Black
Sabbath tunes. There is an underlying hint of doom, and possibly even an Entombed influence that shows from time to time. With a lot of people?s
limited knowledge of any heavy hardcore influenced music more then 5 years old chances are people will miss the mark with this band and compare the
band to Dillinger Escape Plan. Forget about that though, this is for the people who cut their teeth on Coalesce and Deadguy. This is what metal
influenced hardcore is supposed to sound like.
On the Outside-Tragic Endings

Hardcore is such a diverse genre now that when a band comes along that plays a classic form of hardcore it tends to really stand out. On the Outside
have a vintage New York Hardcore sound that brings to mind the likes of Madball and really gives a middle finger to the breakdown laden sound of
current hardcore. Are there breakdowns? Most definitely, but this takes you back to the time when breakdowns had musical structure. The band isn?t
just chugging the open E string and calling it music. The one thing that really stands out about this album is that the songs are extremely catchy.
The band really has a knack for writing memorable riffs which reminds me quite a bit of Biohazard at times. If nine times out of ten you find yourself
listening to bands from New York, this should be right up your alley.
