DJ Out on Bail After On-Air Sexual Rants

NEW YORK - A syndicated hip-hop disc jockey arrested after making on-air racial and sexual rants about a rival radio personality's wife and young
child has been released on bail.
DJ Star, whose real name is Troi Torain, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child after a broadcast on Power 105.1 FM.
Transcripts show he hurled racist insults, threatened to sexually abuse the 4-year-old daughter of his rival, Hot 97's DJ Envy, and offered
$500 for information about where she went to school.
"I will come for your kids," Torain said, according to a transcript provided by New York Councilman John C. Liu.
Torain was arraigned after 11 p.m. Friday and posted $2,000 bail within an hour, authorities said.
Police originally had indicated he also would be charged with harassment, but prosecutors decided against it for now, district attorney's spokeswoman
Barbara Thompson said.
Torain's lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, said his client's conduct was inappropriate but not criminal, and was "never intended to frighten the family."
Torain ? along with his brother Timothy Joseph, known as Buc Wild ? was the host of Clear Channel Radio's syndicated morning show on Power 105. The
company fired Torain after city officials complained. Their show aired in markets including Philadelphia, Miami and Richmond, Va.

Power 105 DJ Free On Bail Following Arrest On Harassment Charges
Former Power 105 DJ Troi Torain is free on bail Saturday, after being charged with multiple criminal counts for allegedly threatening a rival DJ?s
child on the air earlier this week.
Torain, better known as "Star" of the "Star and Buc Wild Morning Show," pleaded not guilty Friday night to harassment and child endangerment charges.
"Where does this kid go to school? I got $500 bucks for that information. Somebody e-mail me or give me a call. Just tell me where his kid
goes to school,? Torain said on the air earlier this week. ?Let's see who's really gully on the microphone. Five-hundred dollars in my pocket right
now - I need to know the school where this DJ's kid goes to school.?
"If you didn't hear me, I said I would like to do an R. Kelly on your seed, on your little baby girl,? continued Torain, referring to
singer R. Kelly, who has been accused of having sex with underage girls.
On Wednesday, Torain was fired by Clear Channel Communications, which owns Power 105, for threatening to molest the 4-year-old daughter of rival DJ
Raashaun Casey. Casey goes by the name "DJ Envy" on radio station Hot 97.
Both Torain and Power 105's parent company issued an apology, but Casey's lawyer says that may not be enough.
"We are committed to make sure that the executives and the headquarters of Clear Channel in San Antonio, Texas hear the message loud and clear that we
will never tolerate this in New York City or anywhere around the country where innocent children are commented about, threatened and suggested that
they would have despicable sexual acts committed against them," said Casey's lawyer Ken Thompson.
"Offensive things have unfortunately been said by both sides at each other and it spiraled out of control. Star has apologized for the statements he
made he never intended to cause anyone harm," said DJ Star?s attorney Benjamin Brafman.
Casey?s wife says she still fears for her child's safety, and she is worried that Torain will follow through on his threats.
?He threatened molestation. He put out an offer for their whereabouts. My entire family is worried sick,? Casey said during an appearance on NY1?s
?Inside City Hall? Thursday. ?I am a mother, I have two beautiful children, and every time that I look at them I have to worry about if they're going
to be safe the next day."
The attorney who represents the Casey family is calling on Clear Channel Communications to be held accountable for Torain?s statements, adding the
family has not yet ruled out filing a lawsuit in connection with the case.
Torain declined to comment on the incident through his manager, but his lawyer did issue an apology on his client?s behalf Thursday. The attorney
added that Torain says Casey started the feud.
Torain could face a year behind bars if he's convicted.
