6/1 update: New Releases + tons of new distro items

Summer 2006 is going to be an awesome one here at SA MOB HQ.

Web: http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com
Online Distro: http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/
Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/surpriseattack

We have 3 great new releases to announce this update. Just back from the pressing plant we have THE BREAK IN ?Unbowed? CD. If you don?t agree that this is one of the most vicious CDs you have heard in a long time then we don?t really know what else to tell you. This band doesn?t just sound pissed, they are pissed. Check out the MP3 for ?Coffin Dodger? and see for yourself just how ferocious this band is. 10 songs of unrelenting, straight edge, metallic hardcore in the vein of Ringworm, First Blood, & Earth Crisis without all of the unnecessary ?fluff? that many bands seem to have nowadays. Ex-members of xCanaanx & On Thin Ice. All major distros will have this shortly but in the mean time you can get it straight from us for only $5. You won?t find it cheaper than that anywhere else!

We are also pleased to announce that the HANK JONES ?Hey Boys, There?s Beer & Pizza in the Fridge? Love Mom? 6 song 7? is now available for pre-orders. We expect to have the vinyl in the middle of June and will be shipping the 7?s on June 20th (if not sooner). We are offering a limited edition press of 150 on half blue / half yellow only available from the Surprise Attack Records webstore. The rest of the press is on killer clear vinyl w/ orange splatter.

If you don?t know? Hank Jones hails from just outside of Erie, PA. These 5 fine lads play fast & energetic punk and hardcore similar to the Bane, Suicide File, By the Grace of God, & Kid Dynamite. Hank Jones released a full length CD in 2004 on Undecided records and has gone through a few changes since then. With a few new members the backbone of HJ is stronger than ever and their musicianship & songwriting has really stepped up a few notches. This 6 song 7? is a great example of even more things to come from this band. Watch out for them on tour all of this summer.

Up next on Surprise Attack:

All ready at the pressing plant? our first 12?!!!

SA39 LP ? VAN DAMAGE ?Gravedigger? on 12? vinyl
One of central PA?s best up and coming bands to come out of the area in a long time. Fast & pissed off hardcore just the way I like it. This band is kicking asses and taking names. It?s like the Cro-Mags & Turning Point had a little bastard child together. 15 songs in all with guest vocals from Scott Vogel (Terror), Dan Mills (Cold World), & Hoodrack (War Hungry)!

The first press is 600 12? and the breakdown is roughly:
75 on white w/ red splatter
150 on green / yellow mix
375 on clear w/ a yellow & green splatter

Pre-orders will be taken in the next few weeks. Stay tuned.

This 12? will be out in time for their record release show July 21 in Lemoyne PA w/ Verse, Have Heart, Van Damage, Shipwreck and more.

We currently have ?Gravedigger? on CD available from the webstore for $8:

Surprise Attack webstore updates:

Well the webstore has been up for about a month now and the amount of orders let alone some of the sizes of them have been amazing. You guys are awesome. Ask around and you?ll find out that we don?t fuck around when it comes to being on point. We ship very fast and treat you all with the respect that you deserve. After all, I grew up mailordering all of the time too, so I know how it feels to get screwed by irresponsible hardcore labels.

If you didn?t know all ready we are now able to take credit cards with no problem. We still gladly accept paypal as a payment form but we?ve been having some problems integrating the shopping cart with the payments. What will happen is we will receive your payment just fine, but not a shopping cart list or what you wanted. I apologize for this inconvenience as it?s happened to a lot of you. You?ll simply receive an email from us with a few directions on what to do. It?s not really a big deal but one we hope to rectify asap. But rest assured we?ll get everything that you ordered to you just right.

We have a TON of new items this update. Many of which I am personally really stoked on. We stocked up on all of the new releases from 3 great DIY labels; Reaper Records, Malfunction Records, & Grave Mistake Records. Be sure to peruse their releases as its some real top notch stuff. Here?s a complete list of what has arrived since last email update:

COMPLETE DESCRIPTIONS & WEBLINKS:

86 Mentality ?Goin? Nowhere Fast? CD (Grave Mistake) - $8.50
We are extremely excited to finally have this anthology CD in our hands. "GOIN' NOWHERE FAST" is a 19 song collection, containing all of 86 MENTALITY's recorded material to date. What you get is 2004's debut s/t 7", 2005's "ON THE LOOSE" 7", two unreleased brand new songs, an exclusive track from their 2003 demo, two live songs, and 4-SKINS and S.O.A. covers to top it all off. Complete with lyrics, pictures, fliers, and liner notes, this CD is a concise documentation of one of the best hardcore bands to come out of Washington, DC in recent years.
http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/index.php?main_pa...

Bitter End ?Mind in Chains? CD (Malfunction) $6
BITTER END came into their own with a demo that was quickly spread throughout the country via messageboards and fellow TX bands hyping up their friends. Mixing old NYHC like KILLING TIME, BREAKDOWN, and MADBALL with their own style of Texas hardcore gives us five songs that could best be described as "a bar-room brawl set to a breakdown". Mind In Chains is the beginning, a call to arms. This is their introduction to the show that will leave kids hugging walls and hoping that the world won't fall down on them, because when it falls, it's not leaving anyone else alive. CD has a bonus Breakdown cover not featured on the 7" vinyl.
http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/index.php?main_pa...

Blacklisted ?We?re Unstoppable? CD (Deathwish) - $8
Whether it's with their infectious mosh parts, their hardcore urgency, or their uniquely powerful lyrics, Philadelphia's BLACKLISTED true grit will move you unlike any other present day hardcore band. BLACKLISTED pick up the torch that contemporary legends AMERICAN NIGHTMARE once proudly carried. Merging a violence, honesty, and emotional outpouring into one untamable and inspiring hardcore machine. BLACKLISTED "We're Unstoppable" CD is a collection of sorts for BLACKLISTED, but also serves as an introduction to those who missed the train the first time. "We're Unstoppable" features their highly praised "Our Youth Is Wasted" recordings (originally released by Stillborn Records, now out of print) as well as their hard to find demo recordings, together in one quality CD collection.
http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/index.php?main_pa...

Black Sheep Squadron ?Foreign Object? CD (Reaper) - $8
With Black SS, what you see is what you get. No bullshit, no posing, just pure hardcore. Black SS is a band whose only goal is to remind the world that hardcore is supposed to be the rawest, most honest form of punk. This band is an outlet for 4 pissed off people who have never, and will never, let go of the anger towards society that defined their youth. A middle finger to the mainstream that continues to infiltrate our scene and a punch in the face to all the empty - fashionable hardcore. Black SS say what they mean and mean what they say. And if you don't like it, tough shit. For fans of: Slapshot, Negative FX, Kill Your Idols, & Negative Approach. Members from AWOL.
http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/index.php?main_pa...

Borrowed Time ?No Escape From This Life? CD (Reaper) - $8
Borrowed Time was formed in the Fall of 2004 with members from Something Sacred, Heatseeker, Santa Sangre, & Unholy. The band hit the studio Jan of 2005 to record their demo. One year later the Borrowed Time returned to More Sound in Syracuse to lay down tracks for an EP to be released on Reaper Records. The day is finally here and the CD is out. "No Escape from this Life" features 8 tracks of hate filled, heavy hardcore with burly riffs and vocals to match. In the vein of Merauder, Stigmata, Blood For Blood, Sheer Terror, Killing Time and could easily stand alongside newer bands like Blood In / Blood Out, Pride Kills, Folsom, and the Hoods. This is a band to watch out for as you'll be hearing more.
http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/index.php?main_pa...

Ceremony ?Ruined? 7? (Malfunction) - $3.50
Born from the ashes of several prominent northern California hardcore bands, CEREMONY is built on the notion of giving you a story and a song in the most basic raw form, but at the same time doing it in a way that's unique to only them. While taking their inspiration from bands like NEGATIVE APPROACH, SHARK ATTACK, and PANIC, it's the lyrics that make CEREMONY what they are; a needle in the haystack. Vocalist Ross Farrar spits every word; every phrase is thrown like an unsuspecting punch at your face. Words that are written in the blackest of holes, in the darkest of jail cells. Ruinedis the beginning. It's a declaration of war. A war against fake people, fake music, fake looks, fake personalities. There are no glossy photos, no perfect hair, no trendy slogans. This is hardcore in the truest sense... and it's going to save us all.
http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/index.php?main_pa...

Deep Sleep ?You?re Screwed? 7? (Grave Mistake) $3.75
Brand new debut 9 song EP from Baltimore's DEEP SLEEP is now available for mass consumption! Prepare yourself for a nonstop barrage of raw, spiteful, in your face hardcore punk rock. Drawing some heavy influences from classic 80's socal bands punk (a little DESCENDENTS and ADOLESCENTS worship never hurt anyone), while maintaining a healthy dose of originality, DEEP SLEEP have created a soon to be modern punk rock classic, loaded with enough infectious hooks to keep you singing along from start to finish, yet packing enough punch to knock you straight on your ass at the same time.
http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/index.php?main_pa...

Doomriders ?Black Thunder? CD (Deathwish) $8
"Black Thunder" was recorded and engineered by Kurt Ballou (Converge) @ Godcity Studios. Recorded primarily in a live setting, "Black Thunder" is a collection of thirteen unbridled songs filled with spontaneity and vigor. From the infectious hook of the title track, to the soul wrenching track "Voice of Fire", "Black Thunder" is as eclectic of an album as they come. Paying homage to their collective musical heroes, while boldly serving as a monster of an introduction to the independent music community worldwide. Features members of Converge, Jesuit, and Old Man Gloom.

Down To Nothing / On Thin Ice ?Split? 7? (Grave Mistake) - $3.75
Richmond, VA's own DOWN TO NOTHING team up with the UK's ON THIN ICE to bring you one of the most intense pieces of hardcore wax this year. Offering a total of seven brand new songs, DOWN TO NOTHING come at you with four of their best tracks to date. Fast, urgent hardcore that you have come to expect from these guys and grown to love. ON THIN ICE could most likely be five of the angriest guys on the other side of the pond, offering up three blistering tracks of raw, fast, and heavy hardcore. For all of you US kids who like to sleep on European hardcore, this is your wake up call.

Get A Grip "Get A Grip" 7" (Strike 3) - $3.50
Coming from the hardcore hotbed as of late this new Richmond, VA band released a demo early 2005 and began to take their scene by storm. Drawing musical influences from such bands as Breakdown, Negative Approach, Right Brigade, and Integrity, Get A Grip lay down 6 rough and heavy tracks. The cover art is sweet, the recording top notch, so this is a great start for this band. It kind of reminds me of Guns Up! and old good No Warning. 7" also comes with a free Razor Ramon CD demo. COLORED VINYL: Red (only 225)
http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/index.php?main_pa...

Hardlife! ?Victimas Del Odio? CD (Envy) - $8
HARDLIFE! is a hardcore band from C?rdoba, Argentina, formed at the beginning of 1997. Their music is fast hardcore, fierce and aggressive, with a little mix of old school NYHC and punk (along the lines of old Sick Of It All). Their Lyrics are socially oriented, and talk about the problems facing the youth of their country. Members of Hardlife have helped expand the hardcore and punk scene in South America over the past 10 years and has shared the stage with many great bands like the Dead Kennedy's & xMaroonx.
http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/index.php?main_pa...

Hate Crimes, The ?Suicide Bomb? CD (Headcount / Good News) - $5
DC's The Hate Crimes have been together since May of 2003. It took five bands, four different bass players, and two different names to make the band the force it is today. Fighting through every difficulty a band could face (including the notoriously ill-tempered "Ghost Van"), they finally released "Suicide Bomb", their debut EP. For those tired of the same rehashed sound in hardcore, The Hate Crimes rely on originality and raw emotion to drive their sound. Gaining more attention with every show, they have created an impressive following everywhere they play. Raw DC hardcore.
http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/index.php?main_pa...

Holyghost ?Holyghost? CD (Deathwish) - $8
HOLYGHOST are the brainchild of legendary RINGWORM vocalist Human Furnace. Where RINGWORM embodies his ever evolving hardcore personality, HOLYGHOST serves as his more eclectic and far reaching artistic persona. HOLYGHOST "Self Titled" CD is an official collection of the highly sought after HOLYGHOST recording sessions. Born from basement tapes and sleepless nights, this collection is an eerily cold and jagged musical vision. A musical war between apocalyptic punk (NAUSEA, AMEBIX, etc) and cloven hoof heavy metal (early CROWBAR, CELTIC FROST, etc). All layered with HF's trademark vocal attack. This first ever official release for HOLYGHOST boasts a stellar new mastering job as well as breathtaking artwork/packaging from J. Bannon (CONVERGE, INTEGRITY). Serving not only as a fitting treatment to an underground classic, but also as the first flight of this musical demon.
http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/index.php?main_pa...

Human Demise ?Whitechapel Demise? CD (Envy) - $6
"Believe me, anyone who knows me can tell you that just about 10 years ago I was all over "holy terror" hardcore. Integrity, Catharsis, Gehenna, All Out War, Overcast? pretty much any band that was ever rightfully hit with that tag has a happy home in my collection. I never really understood why that term died out as it pertains to metallic hardcore with a certain apocalyptic lyrical edge/musical tone, but I guess as the face of metalcore changed, so did the terminology. Thankfully I'm not the only who remembers the good ol' days. I have to give Human Demise credit, as the Dutch act and their label, Envy Records, are the first parties in at least six or seven years that I've seen flat out use the term "holy terror" to promote this brand of hardcore. The band has been around for just about two years now, and the "Whitechapel Demise" EP will hopefully introduce them to the rest of the world who likely missed out on their demo. In terms of Cleveland influences these cast are most directly tied to Ringworm, both musically and in terms of vocal texture, and drop nothing but short tracks of fewer than three minutes apiece with maniacal vocals and thick power chords ? tossing in a 90's European metalcore lean as well by adding in extra dashes of actual metal to the hardcore backbone. I was all over this within seconds. You had me at "holy terror", guys!" - Andrew @ aversionline.com
http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/index.php?main_pa...

Internal Affairs ?Internal Affairs? CD (Malfunction) - $8
Comprised of former members of every prominent LA hardcore band in the last few years (including the band that brought back LA, CARRY ON), INTERNAL AFFAIRS have spent every minute since their inception destroying both the USA and Europe with their blitzkrieg of fast and pummeling hardcore. In the span of time that most bands start to get ready for their first tour, INTERNAL AFFAIRS have released a demo, one 7" and two splits and finally come into their own with their debut self titled LP. 16 songs screaming "true till death" one minute and "fuck you, I'm here to stay" the next showcase the loyalty and commitment INTERNAL AFFAIRS has towards both hardcore and straight edge.
http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/index.php?main_pa...

Learn ?Life And?? CD (Malfunction) - $6
Started in 2003, LEARN burst onto the vibrant Rhode Island scene with a demo impressing everyone within earshot. The band was quickly snatched up for a debut 7? on Bottled Up Records, which sold quickly for such a new group (1,000 pressed to date). After a successful USA tour with friends in HAVE HEART, "Life And?" was written. In these 7 new songs LEARN shows the maturity of an established band, blending elements of historic Cleveland hardcore (like the almighty INTEGRITY) with the modern flavor played by their peers such as MODERN LIFE IS WAR. The combination is explosive. The results will be spectacular. Make sure you get a good seat. The party?s just begun.
http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/index.php?main_pa...

No Idols ?No Idols? 7? (Grave Mistake) - $3.75
Five song debut EP from Syracuse's NO IDOLS. Featuring ex members of THE FUNERAL and THE DISASTER, NO IDOLS churn out five chaotic blasts of powerful and noisy hardcore, quite similar to later era UNBROKEN mixed with the sheer intensity of BLACK FLAG. Back in print after being unavailable for a while. NO IDOLS also have a brand new full length out on HEX RECORDS.
http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/index.php?main_pa...

Our Times ?Our Times? 7? (Headcount) - $3.50
Now available on vinyl! Our Times are a band from Buffalo, NY who blend a lot of the current hardcore styles. Think elements of Lights Out, Righteous Jams, and Outbreak. The recording was done with Jocko at Indie Audio, the same guy who recorded the Bad Business, Black SS, and Witness records so you know it sounds hot.
http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/index.php?main_pa...

Right On ?No Joke? 7? (Malfunction) - $3.50
Drawing from the best parts of the new and upcoming California scene, Right On introduces us to 7 songs of fast melodic hardcore, guaranteed to be loved by fans of The First Step, Our Turn, Allegiance and Lights Out. "Positive" hardcore has a new contender in the ring. COLORED VINYL: Pink
http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/index.php?main_pa...

Right On ?Reality Vacation? CD (Malfunction) $8
RIGHT ON takes more from bands like LIGHTS OUT and OUTBREAK; where a conversation that runs too long could make you miss their highly energetic and spontaneous style of fast trashy yet youth crew based hardcore. RIGHT ON?s debut No Joke sold nearly 2,000 copies just by word of mouth and advertisements in regional fanzines. Reality Vacation progresses where the first 7? left off, songs unwritten with words needing interpretation. RIGHT ON will call you an asshole right to your face if you deserve it. Honesty never sounded so good.
http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/index.php?main_pa...

Set To Explode ?Set To Explode? CD $5.50 / 7? $3.75 (Grave Mistake)
Debut six song EP from WASHINGTON DC's SET TO EXPLODE. Fronted by former STRIKING DISTANCE vocalist Dave Byrd, consisting of ex-members of a slew of DC bands, including WORN THIN, THE AFTERMATH, 86 MENTALITY, and THE GOONS, these guys have all been around the block and prove that they know how to write one hell of a hardcore record. All name dropping aside, SET TO EXPLODE offer up an impressive dose of early 80's influenced fast, no-frills, head splitting hardcore (the common description we've been hearing is "the bastard son of MINOR THREAT and ANTIDOTE"), with a dash of classic punk rock influence thrown in the mix for good measure.

State Of Disgrace / Off My Chest ?Split? CD (Envy) - $8
2 bands from around the globe team up for this 10 song split. State Of Disgrace is a straight up fast and aggressive hardcore/punk band from New York City. They have been around since early 2005 and having been playing tons of shows ever since. With a split 7" out all ready with This Means Way, these NY boys are back to deliver more of their NY attitude. On the second half of this split you have Amsterdams own Off My Chest has been compared to bands like old Raised Fist, FC Five, Gorilla Biscuits or On The Rise. Lyrically they try to find a balance between global issues and personal matters. Their goal is to not only complain and to be angry but to give you something to think about. And if possible, approach things in a somehow positive way.
http://www.surpriseattackrecords.com/store/index.php?main_pa...

Terror ?Life and Death (demo)? 7? (Reaper) - $4
After their self released four song demo cd started circulating, Terror became one of the most talked about out there. While they did have Scott Vogel of Buried Alive on vocals and Todd Jones of Carry On on guitar, nothing was just given to these guys, they worked their ass off for every opportunity they have had. Soon after the four song demo surfaced they released a two song, one sided 7? on Takeover Records. Several tours later Terror agreed to sign to Bridge Nine, and went into the studio (Mars in Cleveland) to record their nine song ep entitled ?Lowest Of The Low?. To coincide with the releases of their new full length ?One With The Underdogs? on Trustkill, Reaper records re-released the original four song demo on 7?.

Wasted Time ?Wasted Time? 7? (Grave Mistake) - $3.75
Debut EP from Virginia Beach's own WASTED TIME. Eight blistering tracks of fast and furious early 80's influenced hardcore, quite reminiscent of early POISON IDEA with a hint of boston hardcore influence ala NEGATIVE FX / SSD. Recorded in the same session as their four song demo, if you were able to get a hold of that this summer, then you know exactly what to expect ... nonstop fast and ugly hardcore mayhem. Featuring some sweet cover art by Brandon from DIRECT CONTROL. Split release with BRAIN GRENADE RECORDS.
