Yes, someone please explain transparencies in Photoshop, I can't get the bastard thing to work and its driving me nuckin' futs.

dulplicate layer
then delete the background layer or just hide it
keeping the new one on top
select the backround color or area
edit>clear

leaves you a nice for ground with a transparent background
I live doing this shit to make multi color prints

this is my technique as well. use either the wand or the lasso (for a more specific selection). but isn't there a way to do transpariencies using alpha channels as well?
