Clive Barker makes a big Hellraiser announcement
October 23: Clive Barker talks new HELLRAISER
HELLRAISER fans spent their weekend in either a state of dribbling puzzlement or utter elation following last Friday?s announcement of a new Pinhead
film. If you?re now catching up, to sum up the drama in one word: remake. Yes, Dimension is moving ahead with a redux of the ?87 film, and Clive
Barker is back to pen the update (for his reasons, see that news item). Fango happened to catch up to the man last night during the Screamfest Awards
dinner (where Barker accepted a Lifetime Achievement nod, pictured above), where he also revealed that his latest novel, THE SCARLET GOSPELS (which
will chronicle Pinhead?s demise), is now weighing in at 3,000-plus pages.
With a definitive end to this project in sight soon enough, where does that leave room for Barker to pen that new HELLRAISER?especially with so many
other irons in the fire? ?When I?m done with GOSPELS, I?ll begin writing HELLRAISER 1 while I?m doing the paintings for ABARAT part three,? Barker
laughs, the insanity of such an undertaking not lost on him. ?I just wouldn?t be at peace with myself if I gave this [remake] writing gig to somebody
else, and I?ve always had in the back of my head what I wanted to do. There are things which are going into the movie which I?ve had tucked in my
brain for years.
?I haven?t talked to anybody else [involved in the original] about this,? he adds, instantly answering those fans pondering Doug ?Pinhead? Bradley?s
place in the new film. ?I?m going to write it and see how it goes. I?m hoping Doug will be back [but] this will be a different Pinhead.? That said,
will the new HELLRAISER reflect any themes, characters or events revealed in GOSPELS? ?Oh yeah, of course!? Barker teases. ?Do you really think I
wouldn?t do that?? ?Ryan Rotten from Fangoria.com

I like it.
You can't go wrong with meat hooks.
That is all.
Have you ever noticed how crayons are a lot like M&M's? All the colors tend to taste the same.

I've been a Clive Barker fan for a long, long time. Looking very forward to The Scarlet Gospels.
For anyone who hasn't, read Imagica. And everything else he wrote.
Well, its this place where nobody works, and the pigs don\'t give you any shit. Everyone smokes weed and gets drunk all day. Its a place where
cunts like me and you can truly take it easy and relax. Know what I mean?

I like the old ones a lot, good films.
Hollywood stopped having new ideads in horror a long time ago eh? The biggest new horror films lately came out of Australia (Saw series & Wolf Creek
which I guess isn't that type of horror..)
Saw seems to be the only new horror franchise at the moment.
A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s
a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal
favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.

Lately its all about the remakes and sequals of remakes, but they are good so I cant complain to much.
Next year we will get....
HOSTEL 2
THE HILLS HAVE EYES 2
Rob Zombies HALLOWEEN (yes featuring Michael Myers)

Remakes are movie directors versions of "cover songs". Sure, you can do an original, but if you do a cover, the crowd will be into it from the get go
with less convincing / promotion. I think that idea came out right, whatever, I just woke up.

This will be good I'm sure, I've read alot about it over the past month or so and it's basically Clive Barker revisiting a story he wants to tell
using updated tools. He couldn't do alot of the things he wanted back in 87 and now he plans to shoot the film he intended to back then. If none of
you have seen it yet, check out FEAST, it's the movie Wes Craven co-produced with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck for the project greenlight series and it
is easily the best monster flick I have seen in a looooooooong time.
