Way off subject but interesting nonetheless, After my Grandad passed (my dads side) we had the dirty duty of going through stuff to figure out what to keep and what to put into the estate sale. Well, my uncle John was going through his paperwork and finances when he discovered that my Grandad had actually invested pretty heavily in Apple when they first went public. Keep in mind this is a man who built Mac engines in Allentown PA for 30 + years with less than high school education. The biggest surprise of it was he was so old fashioned, he didn't even own a computer. Ironic, needless to say, he made a fucking small fortune off of that investment.

that's amazing. when was this?
apple went public in 1980 at like $20/share. it's lowest point was in the mid- to late-90s, but now trades at nearly $100/share, and that's AFTER a split in 2005.
buy and hold!

it's definitely a dope product, but it's be gonna be a love it or hate it kind of thing.
- touchscreen. some people hate not having a tactile keys.
- Cingular exclusive.
- EDGE. i don't believe that's part of the most current cellular broadband technologies.

well, the iphone is dope, and i know people would pay that kind of money for just the video ipod function, but that's too rich for my blood, even with the other features. for now.

i find i'm more excited about iphone-derivative products potentially coming from apple. i mean, you don't register 200 patents for a single device and not share the love.

my assumption is that we'll see another version that is a more of traditional video ipod (sans the phone and communication nerdery). and that touch screen technology HAS to find its way into a tablet at some point.

the fact that it's running a mini version of OSX is also very interesting.
i'd LOVE to see some sonos-esque remote capability in conjunction with iTunes and their Airport Extreme.
