what's the issue you're running into with the hook up? no phono ground on the receiver?

yes it has extra auxilery inputs.
my old stereo, that i have had since i graduated high school in 1992 (it was a gift from my parents) has a turntable, but it has this odd little cord that plugs into the back of the main unit which it is powered by. so i cant use that one because i have no way to power it being it doesnt plug into a wall outlet.
i found a few nice ones on circuit city's web page.
i pulled out a bunch of old crap last night, and i forgot how good some of it was. i usually only play the vinyl when i am drunk and entertaining guests. last night i was kinda tipsy and entertaining the boy as he played ps2

I got a pretty sweet Sony one for 110 and it sounds good as long you have good connections. As long as you have Aux inputs you'll be good to go.

Yeah, unless you're buying one specifically designed to go only with a certain unit (like the one you said you've had since graduation), any of them should work. If you don't wanna spend the 80 - 100 bucks they are for most basic models at places like Best Buy and don't need a new one, I would just check out all the local pawn shops. You'll probably wanna take a record with you so you can make sure it works before you buy it and you'll probably wanna buy a new stylus, but that would be the easiest and cheapest way to go.

my mom bought me one of those old style looking ones, meant to look like an antique but has a cd player, cassette, am/fm and still play records. i kind of want one to hookup to my speakers like you're saying, but this one does the trick because i don't play records all the time. im sure i'll end up getting a component player eventually. something cheap.
