VI

Int he past I have heard people complain that this was a shitty Circle Jerks record.

I say they are wrong.

I remember when they released this record and I bought a THRASHER mag that had a full page add for the album. I cut it out and put it on my wall.

Better than the vast majority of the shit that's out there now, but it's very near the bottom of the barrel for the Jerks. The only album of theirs I can say is absolutely terrible is that one that came out in the late 90's with Debbie Gibson on it. The only song I can remember any part of from that was the cover they did of I Wanna Destroy You and I can't even remember who that was originally by....

Fuck that album sucked. I thought Debbie Gibson being on there was funny, but that album was terrible. I had it sitting on the shelf for years and then sold it on ebay last year. I had 5 people bidding on it, all emailing me to tell me that they had been looking for it forever. It went for almost $30.

I agree, Greg Ginn made Black Flag standout, no-one can play guitar the way he did. Don't get me wrong I like Black Flag, but that band was Greg Ginn. I've got a solo album of his called "Getting Even" and its pure Greg Ginn, sounds like old Black Flag.

Well, its this place where nobody works, and the pigs don\'t give you any shit. Everyone smokes weed and gets drunk all day. Its a place where cunts like me and you can truly take it easy and relax. Know what I mean?

The only part of this statement I disagree with is the first two words. I think the Jerks were a much better band. I love Black Flag, but only up until Rollins joined and they started drastically changing their sound. The ONLY Rollins era Flag record I like is Damaged and even that has some stuff that bores me. I give them "maximum respect" (as HR would say) for the trailblazing part of their legacy, but I can't get behind that experimental sound Ginn was/is so big on.

It had been quite a while since I really listened to any Circle Jerks when I went to that Fun Fun Fun Fest to see Negative Approach and I really wasn't caring too much about staying for Circle Jerks, but when they hit the stage I was glad we stuck around. Those guys still put on one hell of a show, even with Keith's bad health. He did get REALLY pissed at a couple guys who were at the front of the stage smoking after he got enough of a lungful of smoke that he had to go get some oxygen. He left the stage saying that if he couldn't continue because of those guys blowing smoke at him that everybody should beat their asses. Yeah, it's a little odd seeing Geriatric Punks on stage, but he's nowhere near as old as he looks. Jeeze, that fucker looks like he's 101, but he still goes nuts.
