To anyone that likes Hip-Hop

Lets talk about this for a moment shall we.. What groups or artists do you like past or present.

For me... Past: RUN DMC, Public Enemy (file under current also), LL Cool J, Eric B and Rakim, Current: The Roots, NAS, K-OS, DMX. These are ones that I'm saying really hold down what Hip-Hop is about...

Your thoughts?

Hahahaha. I don't like hip hop really but Too Short is fucking hilarious. Blowjob Betty and Fuck My Car are classic.

Public enwmy greatest rap group period. I Like NAS's music and lyrics but it pisses me off that hes a 5 percenter. Anyone here of immortal techniques. Guy has really inteligent lyrics. Except one pussy ass song where he describes making love with a womens mind...lame.

just take a look at the papers
your leaders
they\'re killers
they\'re liars
what they do in your
name to make the bodies pile higher
the murders, the terror
they\'ve done it forever
as we sit band and smile
at the script they sell us
but now the victims, they\'re rising
their numbers\'s multiplying
they want their revenge for the years
that they\'ve been dying

When I was in High School (that was a looooooooooooong time ago, kiddies), I loved BDP and Public Enemy, but that was pretty much it and I think the last time I really listened to any of it that I liked was probably 92 or 93. I haven't heard anything that moves me from that genre since then. It basically occupies the same space in my mind that top 40 radio shit does, it's annoying and I'll only listen to it when I have no choice or I just don't wanna upset a friend who is listening to it. Of course, by "friend", what I really mean is "girl I'm either with or trying to be with", because if it was somebody I'm just friends with I'd tell 'em to turn that horrible shit off before I smash their stereo.

Nas is aight. Dmx is aight. Some 2Pac songs are aight.
D12 + Eminem are hilarious, Biggie is dope! but..

Immortal Technique, Black Sheep and Big L, and some old Bone Thugz n' Harmony are where it's at!
I haven't really discovered alotta hiphop I don't go searching for it... most of it ain't my deal.

I rarely listen to anything like that but I got some favourites:

Run DMC, Kris Kross, Young MC, Necro, Ice T and that's about it. Some Eminem from the first 2 albums now & again, a few Public Enemy songs but thats where it ends.

A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.

i was really into the first two public enemy records when they came out. run dmc, tribe called quest, grandmaster flash, first couple LL albums, boogie down productions, eric b and rakim, kool moe dee. obviously havent listened to hip hop in a long long time. i remember in like 86/87 when you had to ask for the rap tapes at the record store and they'd bring out a shoe box from behind the counter. they wouldnt put the stuff out in the regular sections. how times change.
