"paddy punk"

I've had enough of this "paddy punk" crap that seems to be getting more popular by the years. Is it nessasary for everyone who is into punk and happens to have an ounce of Irish in them to start up a celtic-punk band? Could we get a little more original? I don't want flutes or bagpipes in my music. I dont need to hear another rendition of an old Irish jig. I dont give a damn if your great great grandparents suffered from the potato famine. I just want this fad to die out and never surface again. Does anyone else feel the same?

First, yes, I feel the same. Second, Irish music is rebel music, much like old Jamaican ska, and will always be part of the scene, for better or worse. Personally, I'll listen to the old stuff, rather than someone's version of it. That version of Fields of Athenry off of Blackout does kick ass though.

I don't find it to be as big as it was. I find it's actually dying off a lot.

I like a lot of the stuff out there like DKM, Flogging Molly, Tossers, etc., but it has gotten a bit too popular and too many bands are trying to jump on that bandwagon.

Saw the Tossers a few weeks ago in Philly.
They were tight.

Blood or whiskey are the ONLY ones doing it right as they are from Ireland.

I'm pretty sure the only Gaelic college in the world is in Cape Breton, and I had a beer last weekend with Tommy Makem's nephew, so it would appear all the "REAL" Irishmen moved here. :baddevil:

They aren't Irish, but I'm adding the Real McKenzies to list of bands in this genre that kick major ass. Great albums, great live show, and they pre-date DKM, Tossers, Flogging Molly, etc.
