Oink is dead

Oink a popular file sharing website has been nailed by the cops. They arrested the guy in charge and are going to investigate the users...oh shit.

I only got on it a few months ago but was killing it, that site ruled so much. I found so many classics i'd lost or thought I'd never find, big time bummed right now.

A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.

Never found an invite so never joined. I would assume that Demonoid is next.

in case anyone cares, the quote from this article:

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=071023114749.r2nlwb1...

Quote:
People were only invited to become members if they could prove they had music to offer and had to keep posting tracks to maintain their membership.

is a blatant fucking lie.

The whole article was a load of shit haha. Barely anyone donated to it, and the pre-release goldmine thing is a joke. So many FTP and other torrent sites, usually public ones, had leaks well before Oink did simply because of their quality rules with webrips & transcodes.

haha yeh a lot of people complained about the rules, I think some could have been taken farther :)

Minimum 192kbps was excellent, but they say nothing about encoder. There are really bad encoders out there so 192kbps in them sounds like a 128kbps LAME rip. They could have tightened that up.

Their ratio rules I never had a problem with, and since they didn't limit active torrents you had full control of your ratio. Uploading is easy, my ratio was over 5.03 before it was closed.

I learned a lot from the site though, ripping techniques, music management programs and all sorts of shit like that. Hopefully it'll be replaced by something as amazing real soon & I get in on it.

utorrent! But seriously I get paranoid from using torrents and sharing programs. I don't need the man knocking on my door with a subpoena.

yeah, i'd love to see a site that only allowed eac-v0 rips with logs.

HA! The scene standard is only -v2 so good luck. Luckily I was never a member of Oink but I'm a member of many better scene only private trackers so I'm covered. I hope to God you people are at least using Protowall/Blocklist Manger or a built in IP blocker in your client. If not, get into it.

I don't get the log thing so I've never used them or paid much attention to them. Used to use EAC but now just use Easy CD-DA Extractor with LAME 3.97 for my V0's.

it's basically proof that it's an original rip and what it's encoded at.

haha yeah if they have metal, hardcore, punk & rock I'd be down for these sites.

Even any that aren't scene only, have come across dodgy shit in the past especially with the older ones, plus lack of effort to scan album art these days or check spelling.

I'm after anything to replace oink right now and I seed like crazy, upload and have great ratio's.
