ESSENTIAL ALBUMS 2007

A best of 2007 type thread. Maybe best of 3 and then 1 disappointment...because we don't want to be too posi.

What are the years highlights...it's nearing the end of December so it's as good a time as any to judge.

Maybe this will turn some people onto somthing new...posting a brief snippet about the album is always better than a random naming.

1. Insect Warfare-World Extermination
-this album will punch your face off. this isn't modern 2000's short hair pretentious hc kid grindcore...this is some dirty metal early 90's Earache Records grindcore. This IS the greatest grindcore album since Terrorizer "World Downfall". That will stand up in court.

2. Everyday Dollars-Before The Supply
-was a fan of this bands demo stuff but it was nothing to go crazy over...this CD however has stepped up about 10 notches...epic production...this is such a full sounding great recording of a hc album. it's not overproduced, it's just recorded by someone who knew how to make this band sound exactly what they needed to sound like. Not to mention the new songs are so much better writing wise than the demo it's mindbottling (yes I said it) If you like bands like Warzone, Cause For Alarm, Vision etc etc you'd dig this.

3. Johnny Vomit-Extreme Championship Drinking
-a bit self serving, but seriously one of my favorite bands ever...part of the reason I started NGS records...it just took 10 releases to finally get it done. Glad I ended on such a high note. The ultimate soundtrack to any party. If you hate JV you are funs enemy.

As far as the worst I'd actually have to go with that new Madball. Lots of bands released sub par albums...but for someone who has enjoyed both eras of Madball thoroughly I couldn't be more disappointed on a whole with their post Matt Henderson output. Such a sad end to a great legacy.

Tiger Army "Music From Regions Beyond"
So very good, it shows a real maturing in their songwriting and if they keep it up things can only get better for them, this was on the razors edge of commercial appeal, I'm surprised it didn't skyrocket them into the mainstream, although I am pleased by this for my own selfish reasons.

Wisdom In Chains not sure of the title as I got it from Murk
I can't say enough good things about this album, I have been playing tghe shit out of it since I got it and I love the song about his dad, it hits home with me big time.

Nekromantix "Life is a Grave and I Dig it"
It dosen't push any boundaries, but these guys are such a good fucking fun ass band. These guys never dissapoint.

Motorhead "Better Motorhead than dead Live at Hammersmith"
Yup, it's Motorhead, Yup, it's live and YUP! IT FUCKING ROCKS! nuff said

There are alot more, but I am at a loss right now. As far as dissapointments, I think Brian Setzer and the Nashvillains was bleh. It's nothing terrible, but it's getting old.

Joe Coffee- When the Fabric Don't Fit the Frame
Best album to come out in the last few years.

Tiger Army- Music From Regions Beyond
Their best album yet, quality tunes from start to finish.

Dropkick Murphy's- The Meanest of Times
Great band who gets better every album.

Honourable mention goes to Mark Lind for "Compulsive Fuck Up" as it was amazing as well.

Darkest Hour - Deliver Us
Through the Eyes of the Dead - Malice
Against - Loyalty & Betrayal

A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.

I keep forgetting about 50 Lions but it's an awesome album. It just sounds waaaaaay too much like Ill Blood for me to put it in my 2007 tops list though.
