I just love how in the book it is supposed to be a German/English dude or something and yet its Will Smith haha.

Regardless, I want to see this movie.

I thought it was excelent. VERY sad at one part. Action packed right from the get go and VERY well done. It looks like they shut down NYC, made it look like hell, and filmed there. The cityscape is flawless.

Me and the fiance were thinking of going to see either this, no country for old men, juno, or walk hard. We figured out of all those movies, this one would be the one that would benifit from the theatre experience. Deffinetly did! We went with my mom as a little christmas type outing and she kept jumping out of her seat. was pretty funny.

NO Country is a great movie as well but you are right. Legend was a awsome Theater type movie.

If I had never read the book I might possibly have thought this was halfway decent. Knowing what the story is actually supposed to be and how great this could have been makes me give this a huge thumbs down. They butchered it top to bottom. Prime example of how brilliant stories get dumbed down for mass market appeal in the process of making them into movies in hollywood.

I find this happens with 99% of book to movie adaptations. I'm really interested in this one, and for once I haven't read the book first, so I'm going to see this before I read the book. I hate Will Smith but I've heard a lot of good things about the movie.

If you hate Will Smith for the corny hero roles he always plays, you'll hate him here too. That's part of what bothers me about this movie so much. The main character is supposed to be an "everyman" type who finds himself in this fucked up situation and they've made him over into a superscientist/military hero guy which helps greatly to completely destroy the brilliant story that they've raped with this movie.
Can you tell that the longer I have to let it soak in, the angrier I'm getting about it? Honestly, it's pissing me off more and more as I think of more ways that they changed it to market it. Everything that is so great about the story is ripped out and then pretty much everything else is changed substantially. I don't wanna say more because I know that people reading this are still planning to go see this atrocity, but I really wanna discuss it at some point.

I wanted to see this, aqnd probably still will for the Patton aspect alone. But I loved this story and I value Saints opinion mucho, so if he says this is a watered down Hollywood version which betrays the real story, I have lost ALOT of interest in it. I also can't stand Will Smith and his films, i don't think I have seen one I really enjoyed with the exception of pursuit of Happiness. This is obviously not a jab at anyone who enjoyed this film, I have not even seen it yet, I was just hoping they would stick to the story fairly strictly and it seems they have not.

It's a renter thats about it Id doubly agree with saint on all points, I'll restate...the best thing about this movie is the batman trailer.

Anyone have dibs on what Will Smith will save the human race from in his next movie?

i finally saw this last night and have to disagree with those of you that are ripping it for getting changed to fit the big screen. to me, they updated the story enough to be understandable in our times. the story is what, like 60 years old? they gave it a cool setting (nyc), they updated the scientist's lab by putting it right in his home, and they made a movie out of a story that is for the most part, one man all alone. that takes some creativity to make dialogue for him and to keep it from grinding to a hault when he's doing his daily chores. my biggest complaint was making the infected super human, they shouldn't be able to climb buildings and stuff like that. i understand that they changed some other stuff about killing the infected during the day, and the ending itself wasn't great, but all-in-all, i'd say they did a decent job making a hollywood version of this. it's better than no movie at all. will smith has finally toned his acting down enough to where he is semi-believable on screen.

The DVD was OK. Not as good as I hoped it would be. Charlie Wilson's War and No Country for Old Men DVD's where pretty good.

I'm not sure the age of the story has much to do with anything. It wasn't a dated story. An epidemic where everyone turns into vampries hasn't really happened yet...they didnt change the premise, they changed the plot.
