clevohardcore - 6-21-2006 at 11:21 AM

BEDTIME FOR DEMOCRACY.

upyerbum - 6-21-2006 at 11:38 AM

Well I'm gonna break up the love-in cuz I've never really liked them. They were just there. That having been said "Life Sentence" has got to be one of my favourite songs from those days. I used to have the 12", I can't even remember what was on the A-side.

JawnDiablo - 6-21-2006 at 11:42 AM

i still have some of their stuff on vinyl
my son had me put california ubarales on his ipod

sinister - 6-21-2006 at 12:16 PM

Was wondering if anyone was gonna mention that... I love that album but it seems to be so overlooked. When they toured a few years back (without Jello) they didn't play 1 track off BFD.

The lyrics on all their stuff are still so relevent today, just goes to show that shit never changes.

BDx13 - 6-21-2006 at 03:30 PM

yeah, i never really got into them either. dude's voice has pretty much always turned me off.

sinister - nice to see ya again.

I like DK alot, I'm a youngster and Bedtime for Democracy was the first thing I bought... loved it immediately.

The sad thing is... I started listening to them because that's what you were "supposed" to listen to if you were "punk." Which, I guess, would have made me a Chickenshit Conformist. Ironic isn't it?

megahurtz - 6-24-2006 at 03:00 AM

fuck i'm surprised no one said that they always hated the DKs....seems like alot do, i mean i like it for its worth, but the guy has a terrible fucking voice...lyrically they shine(d)

Kid Ugly - 6-24-2006 at 03:21 AM

Someone once told me they didn't like the Dead Kennedy's because it sounded like Jello had vibrator stuck up his ass. Whatever. I love this fucking band.

godabandonedme - 6-24-2006 at 05:21 AM

Badass don't get me wrong. I find it funny, when it comes to hardcore I really am a new jack (25), so the shit I listened to when I was young was like madball/soia/all nyhc shit. DK is great but I just could never get into them as much as others. Bands like I just mentioned where tangible, touring, etc. Whatever.

JawnDiablo - 6-24-2006 at 10:27 AM

DKs lyrics are educational
and that dude was by far one of the most creative punk guitarists ever.

Discipline - 6-24-2006 at 09:40 PM

East Bay Ray had a guitar sound all his own.

tireironsaint - 6-24-2006 at 10:22 PM

I love Dead Kennedys, Jello's voice works perfectly for them even though it is more than a bit odd. He's beyond annoying and whiny in person though. I ran into him at a record convention a few years back and couldn't stand to be around him for more than a couple of minutes. I also find his solo stuff/spoken word records to be pretensious and boring, but he'll always be ok by me just because of his work with the Kennedys.

Discipline - 6-25-2006 at 01:03 AM

I love his spoken word stuff. I remember driving like 5 hours to see him live back in like 98 or 99. I love the Lard albums, and the ep with DOA is still one of my favorite records ever. I'm a huge mark for Biafra. Do I believe everything he says? No. But I love the man anyways, especially because he never joined in on the Dk reunion.

gavin - 6-25-2006 at 03:02 AM

weirdest story ever
biafra sat in my house watching baseball(he is a huge fan apparently) for about 4 hours once
it was strange
really strange

I don't really see the guy as pretentious at all. He'll be the first person to tell you that you shouldn't take what he says as gospel. The last spoken word of his I saw he said somthing along the lines of "don't take my word for it...go out and get a second opinion...get a twelfth opinion if thats what it takes..." hes trying to create a dialogue and get people thinking and thats more than what 99% of people in "punk" are doing.

The guys pretty straight on as I see it and him telling the DK's to shove their sham of a reunion up their ass pretty much makes him all the better.

JawnDiablo - 6-25-2006 at 11:25 PM

i have i blow minds for a living on vinyl somewhere and that was pretty thought provoking shit when i grabbed it fresh outa high school in 92

BKT - 6-26-2006 at 04:32 PM

yet another band that a lot of people seem to love, but I simply can not get into. Maybe I'll just go listen to some Kid Rock and Mudoven for a while, that might clear things up.

MM.

barc0debaby - 6-26-2006 at 05:49 PM

I was at a show few years ago and Jello came on stage before the headlining band. He gave a 10 minute rant on corporations and mcdonalds and got the crowd to chant no when he asked if "we" are going to let them tell us what to eat; etc . Funny thing was he was drinking a budweiser the entire time. :D
