Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

UFC on Saturday

moron - 4-23-2007 at 12:49 PM

anyone watch this shit? Crocop got "crocop'd" It was a fucking shocker.

DAK - 4-23-2007 at 01:03 PM

Yeah, that was fuckin wicked. That's three surprise main event shockers in a row. First was Coutier beating Silvia, then Matt Sera beating St. Pierre, and now Cro Cop.

moron - 4-23-2007 at 01:50 PM

I love upsets. It makes the title picture so much more interesting.

Crocop's ankle looked fucked the way he fell on it. I imagine he has to AT LEAST have some ligament damage. Im sure he'll be out for over 6 months.

Muttley - 4-23-2007 at 02:35 PM

I think Gonzaga sucks, I still can't fucking believe he knocked out Cro Cop. Gonzaga fought a dude with dreads last year and I swear it was absolutely the worst heavyweight fight I had ever seen.

Bisping was fuckin unreal the way he lit up Elvis.

Discipline - 4-23-2007 at 02:53 PM

I love the fights, but I hate sitting through all the shit inbetween them.

I can't believe that kick to Cro Cop's head. Did you see the way his leg folded when he dropped?

gavin - 4-23-2007 at 03:25 PM

cro cops leg actually has no damage i heard
he'll come back stronger then ever

im just waiting for fedor to come here and murder everyone

CR83 - 4-23-2007 at 03:27 PM

Is there video of the kick?

DAK - 4-23-2007 at 03:54 PM

Shitty quality.

CR83 - 4-23-2007 at 04:03 PM

WOW!

DAK - 4-23-2007 at 04:21 PM

You gotta see it in slow motion.

I know exactly what fight youre talking about, and man was that a fucking stinker. The entire crowd was chanting "GO HOME! GO HOME!" The ref even had to stop the fight and remind the fighters that they were supposed to hit each other. Gonzaga has obviously improved since then. Im not sure what his problem was when he fought that dreaded guy (Kevin Jordan), but he's looked sharp since and it looks like he got motivated by the offer to fight Crocop.

I still think that Randy will beat him.

moron - 4-23-2007 at 04:26 PM

here's a better video of the ending of the fight

This fight upset me so much... I think the heavyweights have sucked for a while and I was really looking forward to Cro Cop & Heath Herring decimating the whole division. Herring sucked in his first fight, and now Cro Cop gets blasted... luckily Couture has the belt or I'd be giving up on this whole division.

this is his brother alex who i like even more although he is not quite as good as his brother
i think he could beat just about anyone in ufc also

moron - 4-23-2007 at 05:29 PM

We'll see some Pride vs. UFC fights now that theyre essentially owned by the same company. We, as fans, win bigtime.

Crocop will be back and he'll kick some ass. His loss didnt upset me too much. As long as he's given the chance to beat the crap out of Tim Sylvia and eventually fight Fedor again my world will be a happy one.

I read an interview with Dana White and he said they were going to run them as two completely seperate companies, and only mix things up on one mega pay per view per year. Whether that happens remains to be seen of course.

necrobutcher - 4-23-2007 at 07:31 PM

Fucking mindblowing. I can't believe that Gonzaga, who as far as I thought was a bum, snuck that high roundhouse in.

For further fucked up viewing, watch Cro Cop get punched out by Kevin Randleman, who is a hell of a wrestler but never struck me as having any stand up skills.

The kick to CroCop was brutal. But the guy I was watching with said that Gonzaga had terrible kickboxing technique, which is why CC never saw the kick coming (i.e. no twist in the hips, etc)... not sure if it's true, but sounded reasonable.

About upsets, you're forgetting Hendo knocking out W. Silva for the title, though that's Pride not UFC.

Dana White has already talked about Superbowl fights, i.e. Pride vs UFC. Supposedly the first such fight was Monson-Fujita, but that's a bit odd since I thought Monson got a release from UFC to fight in bodogFight (supposed to be Fedor, but then Aleks after the loss to Sylvia... anyone recall if Jeff-Aleks happened?).

This event was good, since it was taped and they filled in the gaps with prelim fights. I guess the Machida fight sucked, since that was a headliner that got dropped from the card (by the way, M. won by decision).

Just waiting for Fedor to arrive and conquer!!!

Hendo KOing Silva was an upset, but fucking Nick Diaz submitting Gomi was even better! Too bad it got changed to a no contest, but in my eyes he still beat him.

That Monson/Fujita fight happened at Pride 34 and Monson won by rear naked choke. It doesnt seem that Monson is fighting for the UFC anymore though. I had heard that he was signed to fight on BodogFIGHT, but that never happened for some reason. I assume it was because the UFC approached him about fighting on the Pride event... or Pride approached him? I dunno. Anyway, Lindland ended up fighting Fedor and Aleks fought Eric Pele. Monson is supposed to be fighting Wes Sims on the next Gracie Fighting Championship event in Ohio.

As for Gonzaga's kickboxing technique... I have no idea if it was good or not. Crocop saw the kick coming, but I think he guessed wrong. You can see he dropped his hands maybe thinking that it would be a mid kick or something. Who knows really.

gavin - 4-24-2007 at 11:06 AM

after watching the cro cop knock out a few times i agree that he misjudged the kick
i think he was expecting a midsection kick annd dropped his arms to block it but insted got it in the head

i just watched the alek/pele fight
i enjoyed watching alek kick his ass

godabandonedme - 4-25-2007 at 08:58 AM

After watching CroCop dominate for so long, I'll admit I've very one sided on this one. I don't want to downplay Gonzagas skill at all, but as for him and Randelman, I say shot's in the dark as far as I'm concerned. Everyone gets caught now and then. Mirko's 2min highlight reel is better then most guys in the ufc's carreers put together. I think part of his doing so great in pride is that he didn't really fight great kickboxers, his time at K1 was not without great fights, but nowhere near what he acheived in pride. Watch his second W. Silva fight, thats the real fucking deal.

i agree 100%
anyone can lose once in a while
it takes nothing away from how good cro cop was and still is
if they do sign a rematch, i almost feel bad for gonzagas
i have to say i think this was a fluke and will not happen again

My head hurts watching that. I swear in there I saw him fighting Ernesto Houst, anyone know if he won that fight??

Muttley - 4-25-2007 at 11:30 AM

I cannot explain how much I would LOVE to see him murder Gonzaga in a few months.

This guy is so impressive. I love the training techniques they show him going through. Sledgehammers on tires, pull ups, knuckle push ups, stretch bands on a jungle gym. Very cool

i really hope he comes to ufc or at least has a chance to fight some of those dudes
