Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

Cover Song Question???

stateofdisgrace - 8-7-2007 at 09:29 AM

What songs should be banned from being covered?

My vote goes for these 2: CRUCIFIED and AS ONE.

Everyone butchers them cause they are simple to play, but usually do something to ruin them for me.....

Let's discuss......

panzerkreuzer - 8-7-2007 at 10:14 AM

ready to fight. everyone?s covering n.a. i can?t hear it anymore.
and blitzkrieg bob. don?t wanna hear hey ho no more.

Jason the Magnificent - 8-7-2007 at 10:31 AM

Hard Times...for some reason this is the only Cro Mags song bands are allowed to cover.

MyOwnWay - 8-7-2007 at 11:00 AM

Mike... Last year D9 covered As One... I thought it was pretty good.

JawnDiablo - 8-7-2007 at 11:08 AM

It was OK. But other bands had ruined it for me already.......

BDx13 - 8-7-2007 at 02:12 PM

excellent idea for a thread.

Discipline - 8-7-2007 at 02:21 PM

I'd be happy with sXe bands never covering Minor Threat anymore, as it's been done to death. Same with newer "youth crew" styled bands covering YOT and Gorilla Biscuits.

DeathByForce - 8-7-2007 at 02:46 PM

My hardcore band will cover "I Don't Wanna Hear It" but we won't be a sXe band..

i just really like that song.

JawnDiablo - 8-7-2007 at 03:34 PM

bad vibes did a minor threat diddy last time i saw em......it was cool

gavin - 8-7-2007 at 04:26 PM

we did "guilty of being white" cuz some people were saying we were nazi or sumthin
we thought it was a funny idea and we love the song so.......yeah
making some unhappy is a good biz to be in

JawnDiablo - 8-7-2007 at 07:28 PM

Straight edge bands cover Minor Threat still? I thought Minor Threat was pretty much irrelevant in the wider context of straight edge ages ago... Huh. Who'da thunk it?

YOT should never be covered unless it's to make fun of how Ray sang.

Thanks. I bring it up cause we learned a new cover at practice this week. I always wonder what other people think about this.

State Of Disgrace tried "break Down The Walls", but it just never sounded right.

That doesn't count... two of the dudes in the band at the time were IN Warzone for years.

I agree with Mike Disgrace.... I'd also like to add "Sick People" by Breakdown to that list. I've seen so many bands butcher that song too.

"Crucified" is the worst because they're obviously doing the AF version of the song. Doing a cover of a cover is GAY.

Props to Merauder for doin a Skrewdriver song.. hahahaha

Dave - 8-8-2007 at 09:09 AM

we used to cover a Minor Threat song, way WAY back.
we butchered it for sure.

we also did, these over the years:

if the kids are united - sham69
someone's gonna die - blitz
death was too kind - subhumans
traitor - oxblood*
watching the apples grow - stan rogers*
ramones - motorhead
home for a rest - spirit of the west*
no retreat no surrender - springsteen*
joe hawkins - oppressed
ultra violence - oppressed

(*these were the only desent ones)

panzerkreuzer - 8-8-2007 at 09:21 AM

JUDGE, every cover i heard of them was bullshit. no one can sing like mike did.

So you mean to tell me if Ironbound NYC did a Sick Of It All song, it wouldnt be a cover because Pete and Craig were in the band?

It's cheating... how could they fuck it up if they've been playing in the original band? If they blow it they've REALLY got problems.

It's like Type O Negative when they did Carnivore songs..... can't really compare it to a cover by another band can ya?

This is a very true statement... one that a few members of both my bands have been painfully subjected to.

upyerbum - 8-9-2007 at 11:02 AM

Ballroom Blitz (no-one can top Sweet anyway).

joemaconmovies - 8-11-2007 at 08:36 PM

i dunno. as long as the cover is good, i don't mind. i'm always weary of bands doing any weezer covers, especially live.

JawnDiablo - 8-11-2007 at 11:55 PM

if i was in a band i'd really want to cover hybrid moments by the misfits
