They actually were filmed for that but I guess it was Jimmys bday and cake and beer were flying everywhere, there were camera issues and it never made
the cut on the VHS, be interesting to see if any of that made it to the DVD.

That sounds like it would be the hilight of the movie, even if there was only pieces of it because of camera issues!

Crossing over to a more metalic sound. Like tuning down the guitars and/or slowing down the songs.

OLC never crossed over, American Justice may have had a bunch of silly skits and dumb shit on it but it was in no way any more metal that CRS,
arguably it could be considered less metal with the PB2K, Confront and Meanstreak covers. |
I know most of the bands I listed are not from NYC but I explained that at the end of my post. From what I can remember there wasn't much going on
there HC wise at that time. And OLC started to take a little too much liberty with there sound by the time the Reality Check demo came out non the
less American Justice. I am not saying I didn't like the record I just was less then impressed with the 'balance' of the songs as compared to CRS.

The point being there wasn't a better overall representation of NYHC as an entity during that time on a whole, than those presented in the
video...regardless of their state of metalness.
You can nitpick and say that no bands past '84 should technically be on there then... but NYHC as it's known by most is more broadly accepted as the
'88 and up bands who started incorporating more metallic elements into their sound. Frankly, for the most parts those bands are just better. I'll take
Judge or Leeway over the Mob anyday and both of those bands are more metal than most on that video.

I'm one of those who like the '88 and up style of HC and I thought people would pick up on that by the list that I posted. The list of bands in the
video are WAY more metal then Judge. Judge to me is perfect blend of Street Punk + Thrash which IMHO = perfect hardcore. The bands in the doc mostly
just play down tuned down sludge metal with some scarce punk elements. I'm not really nitpicking I just wish people would call the music what it is
and not what they want it to be. I'm just an opinionated jerk anyway

Thrash like what? I know they don't sound like street punk but I'm curious what this mysterious entitiy of thrash may be that makes this so.

You're telling me you don't hear Street Punk in hardcore? When HC first started you had bands like Minor Threat listening to street punk bands(Sex
pistols, Ramones, etc) and Thrash bands like Motorhead and then combining those two styles together to get hardcore. As the 80's went on and HC was
passed down to younger generations Street Punk and Thrash/Metal became more aggressive as did hardcore(YOT, Judge, COS, SOIA, Agnostic Front, Warzone,
etc) but unfortunately by the early 90's most younger bands and some older bands got bored with traditional, true to it's roots, hardcore and starting
tuning down the guitars, slowing down the songs and practically just growling vocals that where completely unintelligible. OK...time to go get
stoned.

Just because some hardcore has streetpunk influence does not mean a sxe metal band (judge by their own admission) sounds like streetpunk. Thats just
science.

Well, I hear A LOT of street punk + Thrash/Metal in most of the hardcore I listen to especially every HC band that Porcell is in. I didn't say it
sounded like Street Punk I said it sounds like Hardcore to me with certain obvious influences. And yes, Metal being one.

Not if the right amount is blended in. See HC is like chemistry either you can cook the goods or it blows up in your face.
